Gerald Maurice Edelman(July 1, 1929 – May 17, 2014) was anAmericanbiologist.He shared the 1972Nobel Prize in Physiology or MedicinewithRodney Robert Porter.They won the award for their work on theimmune system.[3]Edelman's Nobel Prize-winning research concerned discovery of the structure ofantibodymolecules.[4]

Edelman died fromParkinson's diseaseandprostate cancerin La Jolla, California, aged 84.[5]
