This was because he was aSeventh-day AdventistChristian. Doss became the firstconscientious objectorto be awarded theMedal of Honor,for service above and beyond the call of duty during theBattle of Okinawa.Andrew Garfieldstars as Doss, withSam Worthington,Luke Bracey,Teresa Palmer,Hugo Weaving,Rachel Griffiths,andVince Vaughnin supporting roles.

The movie was released in the United States on November 4, 2016. It made $175.3 million worldwide and received mostly positive reviews, with Gibson's direction and Garfield's performance getting praise.[5]Hacksaw Ridgewas chosen by theAmerican Film Instituteas one of its top ten Movies of the Year.[6]It got many awards and nominations.
