Interstate 80is anInterstate Highwayin theUnited States.It goes fromSan Francisco, Californiaeast toTeaneck, New Jersey(just outside ofNew York City). The route is 2,919.596 miles (4,698.634 km) long, making it the second longest Interstate Highway in the United States behindI-90.It goes through 11 states:California,Nevada,Utah,Wyoming,Nebraska,Iowa,Illinois,Indiana,Ohio,Pennsylvania,andNew Jersey.[1][2]
I-80 is the Interstate Highway that closely follows the route of the historicLincoln Highway,the first road acrossAmerica.The highway traces other historical routes in theWestern United States:theOregon TrailacrossWyomingandNebraska,theCalifornia Trailacross most ofNevadaandCalifornia,and except in theGreat Salt Lakearea, the entire route of theFirst Transcontinental Railroad.
From nearChicago, Illinois,east to nearYoungstown, Ohio,Interstate 80 is atoll road,containing the majority of both theIndiana Toll Roadand theOhio Turnpike.It also has a small part of theIllinois Tollway.I-80 andInterstate 90share the same road from nearPortage, IndianatoElyria, Ohio.I-80 becomes theKeystone Shortway(a freeway built across rural northern Pennsylvania.) The eastern end of I-80 is its junction with theNew Jersey TurnpikeandInterstate 95just west of theGeorge Washington BridgeenteringNew York City.
