Jon Llewellyn Kyl(born April 25, 1942) is an American politician. He served as theUnited States SenatorfromArizonafrom September 2018 to December 2018 after the death ofJohn McCain.He is a member of theRepublican Party.He was in theUnited States House of Representativesfrom 1987 to 1995.[1]Before his 2018 appointment, Kyle served in theUnited States Senatefrom January 3, 1995, to January 3, 2013.[1]He was the senateRepublican party whipfrom 2007 until 2013.[1]

Kyl was born on April 25, 1942 inOakland, Nebraska.[2]He was the son ofJohn Henry Kyl,a RepublicancongressmanfromIowa.[2]In 1964 hegraduatedfrom theUniversity of Arizonawith abachelor's degreeinpolitical science.[2]In 1966 Kyle graduatedPhi Beta Kappafrom the University of Arizona'sJames E. Rogers College of Law.[3]He waseditor-in-chiefof the school'slaw review.[2]In 1966 Kyle joined thePhoenix, Arizonalaw firmof Jennings, Strouss, and Salmon.[2]In 1985, he was a member of the PhoenixChamber of Commerce.[2]He is married to Caryll Collins. They have two children and severalgrandchildren.

In September 2018, Kyl was appointed by GovernorDoug Duceyto serve in the Senate seat left empty by the death ofJohn McCain.[4][5]He retired from the Senate on December 31, 2018.[6]
