Maliseet Territory

TheWəlastəkwewiyikorMaliseet or Malecitewere a Native American group of people of theNortheastern Woodlands.They spokeAlgonquianand were aFirst Nation.They were part of theWabanaki Confederacy.The region includesQuebec,New Brunswickand parts ofMaine.Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians of Maineis a federally recognized Maliseet tribe in the United States. It is considered one the first foreign allies of the United States.
