Menorca(Spain, Catalan:Menorca) is the most east of theBalearic Islands.

Menorca is located east ofMallorca.It has an area of 694.39 km2(268.11 sq mi). About 88,000 people live there. The main town isMahón,which has about 27,000 people.

Menorca was influenced by theMinoans. Later it was ruled byCarthage,and byRomeafter thePunic Wars.From the 5th century AD there was a seat of a bishop on Menorca. TheVandalsinvaded but the Byzantine Empire recovered Menorca in 534. TheMoorstook over in 903. In 1287 the Christians took it back and enslaved the Muslims.

Later Menorca was ruled by the Kingdom of Mallorca. In 1334 it became part ofAragon,which later became part ofSpain.In 1713 the British conquered Menorca but in 1781 the Spanish recovered it in theAmerican Revolutionary War.

Menorca lives mainly on tourism. There is one airport near the main city.
