Sailingis the craft of controlling aboatthat uses the force of thewindas a source of movement. Sailing boats were very important to movecargoandpeople.Starting at the end of the19th centurythey were gradually replaced by the boats that usedsteamto generate motion. Today, sailing is a hobby some people have. In some regions of the world, sailing vessels still keep their importance.

Manymilitaryforces also have sailing vessels for the purpose of training.

Sailing is also a competitive sport. It is one of the sports in theOlympic Games.
