Simon Fraser University(SFU) is aCanadianuniversity.It hascampusesinBurnaby MountaininBurnaby,VancouverandSurrey,all inBritish Columbia.SFU is rated as one of Canada’s top universities. It was started in1965.SFU currently has 24,000students.The university is named afterSimon Fraser.He was anexplorerof the Vancouver area.

Maclean'smagazinerated SFU as Canada's bestcomprehensiveuniversity in 1993, 1997, 1998 and 2000. It is usually always at or near the top of the magazine's list.Research Infosourcenamed SFU the top comprehensive university in Canada for “publicationeffectiveness”in 2006.

Like most Canadian universities, SFU is apublic university.Fifty-six percent of themoneyused to run the school comes fromtaxpayers.Thirty-nine percent comes fromtuitionfees.

The university teaches students in six main groups of topics.Applied Sciences,ArtsandSocial Sciences,BusinessAdministration,Education,HealthSciences, andScience.

In May 2004, the SFUSenateapproved thepolicyondegreerequirementsthat all itsundergraduatestudents must have. SFU was the first Canadian university to do this. The policy was created to make certain students got a more complete education.
