Aterrieris adogof any one of manybreedsof terrier types. They are named from theLatinwordterrameaningearth.It refers to their love of digging after theirprey(smallburrowingmammals).[1]Terriers are typically small, very active andfearlessdogs. Terrier breeds vary greatly in size from just 1 kg (2 lb) to over 32 kg (70 lb). They are usuallycategorizedby size orfunction.There are five differentgroupswith each group having several different breeds. Terriers do not usually tolerate other dogs well.[2]They are descended from dogs bred tohuntand killrodents.[2]Terriers usually have 'wiry' (stiff hairs likewire)coatsthat need special care.Examplesof terriers includeIrish Terrierand theCairn Terrier.
