They are named from theLatinwordterrameaningearth.It refers to their love of digging after theirprey(smallburrowingmammals).Terriers are typically small, very active andfearlessdogs. Terrier breeds vary greatly in size from just 1 kg (2 lb) to over 32 kg (70 lb). They are usuallycategorizedby size orfunction.There are five differentgroupswith each group having several different breeds.
