Yamanashi Prefecture(Sơn lê huyện,Yamanashi-ken)is aprefecturein theChūbu regionofJapanon the island ofHonshū.[1]The capital is the city ofKōfu.[2]

During theHeian period,Kai Provincewas created in this area[3]and it was re-named Yamanashi in theMeiji period.[1]

The borders of Yamanashi Prefecture are formed byTokyo Metropolis,Kanagawa Prefecture,Saitama Prefecture,Shizuoka Prefecture,andNagano Prefecture.

The prefecture islandlockedwith mountains surrounding the central Kōfu Basin.[source?]
