Adam Guy Riess(born December 16, 1969) is an Americanastrophysicist.He works atJohns Hopkins Universityand theSpace Telescope Science Institute.He is known for his research in usingsupernovaeas cosmological probes.
Riess shared both the 2006Shaw Prize in Astronomyand the 2011Nobel Prize in PhysicswithSaul PerlmutterandBrian P. Schmidtfor "providing evidence that theexpansion of the Universeis accelerating ". This means that the expanding Universe is expanding at an ever-increasing rate.
In 2020, Riess was appointed a Fellow of theAmerican Astronomical Society.[1]
