Anassaultis when a personattacksanother. Inlaw,it is considered acrimeortort.Incommon law,it is when somebodythreatensor tries to physicallyhurtsomeone else.[1]In order to be consideredassault,the act must involve the ability to cause the harm. It does not necessarily have to involvetouchingthe other person; that is calledbattery.Incriminal law,an assault can be an attempted but unsuccessful battery. In some states orlegal codes,the words "assault" and "battery" may mean the same thing.

There are several different kinds of assault. Each legal system has their own definitions.

A stronger form of assault isaggravated assault.This usually involves using aweaponthat could easily be used to kill someone.[2]
