The termfried chickenwas first used in the 1830s. The earlier term was true chicken which was used in 16th century England[1]
Scottishpeople were the firstEuropeanpeople who were frying chicken, they added battering and seasoned it with herbs an cayenne pepper. People in WestAfricalater added different seasonings.[2][3]However, the first dish which was deep fried wasfritters.Fritters were popular during theMiddle Ages.
Some fried chicken ismarinatedinbuttermilkandpickle juicebefore battering.
There is a racialstereotypethatblack peoplelike eating fried chicken.[4]There have been a number of public controversies about remarks that people have made about fried chicken and black people that have been considered racist.[5]
