Gothic fiction

Gothic fictionis a type offictionwhich combines parts of bothhorrorandromance.The genre is said to have started inEnglandin 1764 withHorace Walpole's bookThe Castle of Otranto.The Castle of Otranto's second edition was subtitledA Gothic Story.[1]The idea quickly spread to other European languages.

A famous early example of gothic fiction isFrankensteinbyMary Shelley,in the early 19th Century.[2]Edgar Allen Poe'swork andBram Stoker'sDraculawere written later.[3]
