Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.(/ˈhwɑːˌweɪ/; Chinese: Hoa vì;[xwǎ.wèi](audio speaker iconlisten)) is aChinesemultinationaltelecommunicationsequipment andconsumer electronicscompanybased inShenzhen,Guangdong,South China.It was founded byRen Zhengfeiin 1987.[4]

The nameHuaweimay be translated as "splendid act" or "China is able"; Hua can mean "splendid" or "China", while wei can mean "action" or "achievement".

Huawei has had a lot of problems in some countries. They have mainly had problems with theUnited States government.The US government said that theChinese governmentcould use Huawei's5Gtechnology tospyon people. Because of this, the US government does not want other countries to use technology by Huawei orZTE.In May 2019, the US government put Huawei on ablacklist.This meant that Huawei could not do business with American companies.[5][6]
