John Radford Froines(June 13, 1939 – July 13, 2022)[1]was an American chemist andanti-waractivist. He was known as a member of theChicago Seven.[2]He was charged with the Chicago Seven for causing the riots at the1968 Democratic National ConventioninChicago.He andLee Weinerwere the only two defendants to be acquitted by the jury on both of the counts charged against them[3]and thecontempt of courtfindings

At the time of his arrest, he was a professor atGoddard Collegein Vermont.[4][5]He later served as the Director of Toxic Substances at the federalOccupational Safety and Health Administrationas well. He later worked at theUniversity of California, Los Angeles.[6][7]He retired in 2011.[8]

Froines died on July 13, 2022 at a hospital inSanta Monica, Californiafrom problems caused byParkinson's disease,aged 83.[9]
