David Melvin English(laterMelvin Franklin;October 12, 1942 – February 23, 1995)[1]was anAmericanbasssinger. He was known for being in theMotowngroupThe Temptations.

In the late 1960s, Franklin developedrheumatoid arthritis.He used cortisone to treat it. The cortisone made hisimmune systemnot work well. He also developeddiabetes.

Franklin was born inMontgomery, Alabama.He moved toDetroit.He died because of severalseizuresat age fifty-two.
