National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan
The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan(Azerbaijani:Azərbaycan Milli Olimpiya Komitəsi, AZMOC), is theNational Olympic Committee(NOC) ofAzerbaijan.It is also the governing body for theOlympic Gamesin Azerbaijan. Theheadquartersis inBaku.
History
[change|change source]The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan was established in 1992 and recognized by theInternational Olympic Committeein 1993.
For the first time Azerbaijan took part at the Olympic Games as an independent state in 1996 and since then sendsathletesto all Olympic Games.
Earlier, Azerbaijani athletes joined the Olympic Games in theSoviet Unionteam from 1952 to 1988. After thecollapse of the Soviet Union,Azerbaijan became a part of theUnified Team at the Olympicsin 1992.[1]
Azerbaijani athletes won, in total, sixteen medals at theSummer Olympic Games.They won inGreco-Roman wrestling,shooting sport,bo xingandjudo.At theWinter Olympic Games,Azerbaijani athletes have not won any medal.
Main goals and targets
[change|change source]The main goal is the development of the Olympic movement in Azerbaijan on the basis of the OlympicCharter.[2]
