Papyrusis a kind offatsiothat was used inAncient Egyptforwriting.It was first made in the3rd millennium BC.It was made from a kind ofreedcalledCyperus papyrus.[1]

This plant grows inmarshy areasaround theNileriver. The Egyptians also used the papyrus plants to makeboats,mattresses,mats,rope,sandals,andbaskets.

Specially cultivated papyrus, grown onplantations,was used to make the writing material. Papyrus was first used in Ancient Egypt, but it was later used elsewhere in theMediterraneanregion.[2]
