TheRoman provinceof Daciawas in theBalkans.It includedTransylvania,BanatandOlteniain the modernRomania,andMunteniaand southernMoldova.It did not include the nearby regions ofMoesia.
It was a bigdistrictinCentral Europeof theRoman Empire.The northern part of theborderwas made up of theCarpathians;the southern part of the border of Dacia was made up of theDanube River,and the western part of the border of Dacia was made up of theTisza River.Along the borders many Roman strongpoints built. The Daciadistrictprotected the Empire from foreign tribes of the north east side.
The place where Dacia once was is now made up ofRomaniaandMoldova,along with some parts ofHungary,BulgariaandUkraine.The capital of Dacia wasSarmizegetusa.The name ofRomaniacame probably from the idea of the former "Romans country".
Dacia was added to theRoman Empirein its earliest days by the EmperorTrajan.Despite its wealth, it was the first province from which Rome withdrew.
