Synopsis
In a video message livestreamed to the people ofEarth,Megatroneulogizes the fallenStarscream, hisDecepticontroops standing in reverence behind him. Megatron lauds his former second-in-command's courage and loyalty, lamenting the loss of his closest friend before cursing theAutobotscum responsible and urging his viewers to do the same. Soundwave cuts the broadcast asClobberandLockdowncommend Megatron on his deception. Megatron reminds his troops that Starscream's fate serves as a reminder of what he will do to those that fail him. KnowingOptimus Primeis the one thing standing between him and the Allspark, Megatron demands that his troops bring him the Autobot leader's head, promising the role of second-in-command to whoever succeeds. The Decepticons move out, but Megatron pullsSlipstreamaside and reminds her not to waste her newfound command of theseekers.
AsShockwavemakes preparations, he is confronted bySoundwave, who boasts that he will be the one to eliminate Optimus. Shockwave rebuffs him, and the two begin conspiring against one another. Shockwave orders Lockdown to sabotage Soundwave's shuttle, while Soundwave forces Clobber to blow up Shockwave's lab. Before they can even act on their new orders,Shadow Strikerdeclares that both of them will be acting as bait in her own trap for Optimus. Meanwhile, Slipstream goes to the hangar to retrieve her seekers, but finds it empty, withThundercrackermaintaining he does not know where the others are.
Outside theNemesis,Lockdown and Clobber lament their hopeless circumstances, believing every choice will lead to their termination. Out of nowhere, aGroundBridgeopens up before them andHot Rodemerges, unsure of how he got there. He asks the two if they've seen a"moon cheetah"anywhere, much to their confusion, but before he can leave to continue searching, the two grab him and slapstasis cuffson him, seeing him as their way out. As they lead him back into the ship, the moon cheetah watches them from afar. Elsewhere, Slipstream continues to have no luck finding the other Seekers. She contacts Thundercracker, growing suspicious when she sees he's in Shockwave's lab, but he is yanked away as the transmission is cut.
Lockdown and Clobber bring Hot Rod to the bridge, where Shadow Striker berates them for their absence, but Megatron praises their efforts, believing Hot Rod will make a perfect bargaining chip. He hails theArkand reveals the prisoner to Optimus, mocking him for letting one of his troops get caught by two of his most pathetic lackeys. He offers Optimus a trade: Hot Rod's life for Optimus's; left with no choice, Optimus agrees. Unimpressed, Hot Rod uses flames from his exhaust pipes to melt his restraints and takes off, with Megatron ordering the others to recapture him. With Hot Rod now free, Optimus rescinds his agreement, much to Megatron's anger. Hot Rod continues down the halls, givingBludgeonthe slip, but Shadow Striker remains in pursuit.
Slipstream finally catches her seekers carryingVector Sigmaout of Shockwave's lab. When she demands to know what's going on, they only respond that they are "following orders". Before she can inquire further, she is struck from behind by the fleeing Hot Rod. By the time she regains consciousness, the others are gone. Lockdown and Clobber attempt to stop Hot Rod, but their attack hits Shadow Striker instead, and Hot Rod launches out of theNemesisat high speed, celebrating as he drives back towards theArk.Megatron targets him with the ship's weapons, but stops as he catches sight of the moon cheetah, watching the creature create a GroundBridge and retreat through it. Fascinated, Megatron declares that this changes everything.

Quotes
"Starscream was the most courageous, the most loyal, the mostcapablebot I have ever known! "
- —Megatronpiles it on higher and deeper in the name of propaganda.
Lockdown:"So what kinda reward do you think Megatron is going to give us?"
Clobber:"I hope I get a second optic."
Hot Rod:"Oh, Clobber, you don't need that! You look great!"
"Is your shuttle still functional?"
"Yes. How is your lab? Still in one piece?"
- —Ever subtleShockwaveandSoundwave.

- —Hot Rod
Notes
Continuity notes
- Starscream is being memorialized following his (apparent) death in "Bad Moon Rising".Naturally, Megatron's speech that poor Screamer lost his life at the hands of the Autobots is nothing but bald-faced lies, as Megatron himself was the one who savagely beat Starscream before blasting him with his fusion cannon.
- Slipstream was promoted to leadership of the Seekers in "Sea of Tranquility".
- The GroundBridge Hot Rod emerges from is the same one he chased the "moon cheetah" through in theprevious episode.
- Vector Sigma was last seen in "Megatron Is My Hero",in which its chamber was established as having fallen to the Decepticons.
Transformers references
- Clobber has been designed to be a female version ofAnimatedLugnut, but isn't because of reasons (see "Notes" on her page). She's nowhere near as tall as he was, but otherwise very similar, with the addition of lipstick and a few minor details changed.
- While the character has had a history in comics as far back as Generation 1, this marks the first time an incarnation of fan favoriteBludgeonhas appeared in a televisedTransformerscartoon (discounting the unrelatedRobots in DisguiseMini-Conof the same name).
- GroundBridgeswere first introduced in thePrimecartoon.
Real-world references
- The episode's title references the 1974 filmBring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, directed bySam Peckinpah.
- The usernames on the comments scrolling past Megatron's video are mostly based on the names ofOuter GodsfromH. P. Lovecraft'sCthulhu Mythos. The one noticeable exception is "Shodan", named for the antagonist ofSystem Shock.Furthering this reference, one commenter makes reference to the fictional city ofR'yleh,a key location in the Cthulhu Mythos.
- Some of the commenters use the hashtag "#starscreamgate", a reference to the common practice ofattaching "-gate" to the name of a scandal, inspired by the infamousWatergate scandalin the 1970s.
Trivia
- In some TV schedules, this episode was listed with the title "Bring Me The Head Of Optimus Prime". This appears to have been a last-minute title change; in the original Australian & NZ airings, Megatron asks the Decepticons to bring him Prime's head, not spark.
- According toMae Catt, the Decepticons learned how to stream because they are deceptive. Megatron knew he should dedicate some time to winning the hearts and minds of humans while trying to speak more directly to the people. Starscream's "funeral" was not the first time the Decepticons streamed.[1]
Animation and technical errors
- When Clobber talks with Lockdown at the start, she is missing her Decepticon insignia.
- Hot Rod's model occasionally clips through Clobber's foot while he is being carried to Megatron.
- When Shadow Striker rides past the Seekers chasing Hot Rod, her model briefly clips through Slipstream's.
- A teal Seeker has the male head design, despite clearly speaking in a feminine voice.
- Shockwave's Research Lab is labelled as such in Cybertronian glyphs...Ancient Autobotglyphs that is, not Decepticon ones.
Continuity errors
- The scene where Slipstream noticed her Seekers coming out of Shockwave's lab is rather messy.
- At first, Thundercracker is seen carrying Vector Sigma with three other Seekers. When Slipstream arrives, two of them suddenly disappear for the rest of the scene.
- Slipstream is tackled to the ground by Hot Rod while standing in middle of the corridor, a few feet away from other Seekers. In the next shot, she is suddenly sitting against a wall right next to them. And right after the screen transition, she wakes up back at her original spot.
- When Slipstream wakes up, the Seekers are seen briefly in the background, walking to the opposite way from where they were originally going.
