  • Galvatron(Decepticon City Commander,1986/1987)
    • Takara ID number:D-62
    • Accessories:Laser Rifle, Particle Cannon, Particle Cannon connector
The TransformersGalvatron transforms into a Cybertronic treaded field artillery unit with an alternate hand-held gun mode.
Galvatron, like the other new characters created forThe Transformers: The Movie, was designed for animation first, and his toy was based on these early designs. However, as with the other characters, his animation model underwent further modifications before being finalized. This is particularly noticeable with Galvatron; his toy is in a largely gray color scheme, but his most prominent media appearances in the movie and animated series feature him decked out in a regal shade of purple. His outdated character model and colors would live on over in theMarvel Comicscontinuity – including a particularly toyetic example in hisdebut issue– as well as other ancillary media produced to advertise the toy.
Using a 9-volt battery, he features a light-up barrel in cannon or gun mode, light-up eyes in robot mode, and three different electronic warbly noises in all of his modes. Galvatron is notable as one of the most well-articulated toys in the Generation 1 line, with ratcheting shoulders and hips, as well as swivel waist, elbows, mid-biceps, knees, and ankle joints. He was also armed with a small, black laser rifle. In Japan, he was released as part of theScramble Citysub-line.

WHO CHANGED MY COLORS?! Actually, it feels… right.
  • Galvatron(Reissue,2005)
    • ID number:D-62-S
    • Accessories:Laser Rifle, Particle Cannon, Particle Cannon connector, Matrix of Leadership w/ chain
The original Galvatron toy was much laterredecoedand re-released byTakarainto a sort-of more show-like appearance, being primarily purple instead of gray. His face mold was slightlyretooledinto a more angry, sneering expression, and his electronics were totally overhauled, now running on two AA batteries instead of a 9-volt. Gone are his three different electronic squeals: the three positions of Galvatron's sliding switch now denote a singular laser noise, the transformation sound effect (played forwards and backwards), and five speech clips by his Japanese voice actor,Seizō Katō:"Wa-ha-ha-ha, kono orokamono-me!" (Bwah ha ha ha! You fools!), "Eei, Cybertron o hineri-tsubuse!" (Hrr--crush the Autobots!), "Kono yaku-tatazu mono ga!" (You're all useless!), "Eei, hakai shite kureru wa!" (Grrah, I'll destroy you!), and "Destron gundan, transform!" (Decepticon army, transform!). He also comes with a golden redeco of the die-castMatrix of Leadershipaccessory previously included withNew Year Special Convoy, which features a small removable chain that allows it to hang around his neck, as seen in the film.
This version of the mold was later redecoed into the original toy's colors for thee-HOBBY-exclusiveGalvatron II,with a new speech clip.

And there… on the shoulder… was a HOOK!
  • Galvatron(Deluxe Class, 2008)
    • Series:Classic Series
    • Accessories:Missile
UniverseGalvatron transforms into a tank reminiscent of theIsrael Weapons Industries Merkavamain battle tank with some design elements taken fromMegatron's oldNeutro-Fusion Tank.On the tank turret is the slogan "GALV-25", in reference to theTransformersbrand's 25th anniversary.
This toy has many undocumented features in the form of small moving parts that play no role in either mode; most conspicuous are two articulated feet for the tank mode. In one of theHasbro Q&Asessions, it was confirmed that these are remnants of an early design version of Galvatron, which would have been at a larger size class andfeatured a third mode as a "walking tank."It is still possible to manipulate his parts into a mode greatly resembling the original concept design.
There were several odd paint choices used on this figure. The left arm is molded in purple plastic to properly match the rest of the robot mode… but is then painted over in tank-mode grey paint, even though the arm is not visible in tank mode at all. The vehicle mode's wheels are molded in the same translucent orange as the cannon, and then painted over witha slightly different shade of orange.Hasbrolead designerBill Rawleycommented atBotCon 2010that these must have been paint-assignment errors.
Galvatron's transformation is almost insanely complex for a Deluxe Class figure–and in addition, the toy is notorious for having poor plastic tolerances that make it prone to simply falling apart during transformation.
Hasbro's print advertisement for this figure (featuring Galvatron in combat withSideswipe) depicts it with the right arm held away from the body and pointing upwards… which is a pose the toy cannot actually assume, short of digital manipulation and/or breaking and creatively gluing the arm.
Galvatron has a peculiar 5mm peg smack dab on the top of his turret, which allows him to be held in a most hilarious fashion by other Transformers who can manage the clearance around the turret's fin.

  • Challenge at Cybertron(Deluxe Class 3-pack, 2010)
    • Series:G1 Series
    • Accessories:Missile
A redeco ofUniverseGalvatron was released in the "Challenge at Cybertron"multi-pack along with redecoes ofCyclonusandRodimus, with the light grey more closely resembling its Marvel and G1 toy form. Bizarrely enough, this redeco is frequently said to have even more stability problems than the original version.
The set was exclusively released in Hasbro's Southeast Asian markets by Hasbro Malaysia, but was never officially available in Hasbro's Western markets.

Henkei! Henkei!

(thumbnail)
About ten years too late to be the No Limit Records logo.
  • Galvatron(Deluxe Class, 2008-11-20)
    • ID number:D-06
    • Accessories:Missile
Henkei! Henkei!Galvatron is a redeco ofUniverseGalvatron. As with allHenkeireleases, TakaraTomy have attempted to make the toy better resemble his cartoon counterpart, so most of the bright orange plastic from theUniversetoy is now black. The shade of purple used onHenkeiGalvatron is the lighter, lavender shade commonly seen on Takara's Galvatron toys, rather than the deeper purple seen on Hasbro's Galvatron toys. The left arm now retains the "correct" robot-mode plastic color, instead of being painted over in tank colors as the Hasbro version was. The gray is also lighter and a cooler shade of gray than the warm shade used on the Hasbro version.
Galvatron featuresvacuum-metallizedplastic, though in Galvatron's case it is the most random and illogical usage of the gimmick yet in theHenkeitoyline. Galvatron's entire tank turret and the equipment on the vehicle side skirts are vacuum-metallized silver, making him one hell of a blingin' tank. His six-pack… errr, four-pack abs are likewise covered in reddish chrome, a design choice that had also been used on the 2005 "anime-colored" G1 Galvatron reissue and onEnergonGalvatron.
Noticeably, it's often reported that a lot of the stability issues present in hisUniversecounterpart have been fixed with his version, with his limbs being much less floppy and prone to falling off.
Also of note, the box art on the back of the packaging shows the mythical third "turret" mode, but has no instructions on how to convert the toy into it.

    • Set number:A7316
    • Pieces:42
    • Accessories:Rack, arm-cannon, drill-cannon, blade, club, large rifle, missile-backpack, small wing-pack, spare hand
Part of the second assortment of "Custom Kreons", Galvatron comes with a buildable parts rack on which to hang/store his many many extra pieces. The plastics of his torso, arms and legs have a metal-flake sheen, and his similarly-shinytampographsare far more detailed than the original Kreon. His "normal" helmet and blade arechromed, plus he comes with an extra clear-plastic helmet, torso and legs. He also has a pair of extra arms (originally from theKre-O Battleshipaliens), plus a buildable combination drill/gatling cannon, a club (that can also accommodate the blade), a large rifle, a dual-missile backpack, and theWheeljack-style wing-pack.
His name is misspelled in his packaging. Oops.
Though widely solicited, this wave of Custom Kreons ultimately never saw release outside of theHasbro Toy Shoponline store and Chinese-market distribution circles.

Because YOU tell him he's not "special."
  • Specialist: Decepticons(March 25,2014)
    • Accessories:Missile
This redeco of theUniverseGalvatron toy was aimed at being even moreshow-accuratethan the Henkei version shown above. Galvatron now features metallic blue paint on most of his robot body and metallic red on his abdominal plates. His cannon barrel is completely unpainted and translucent, likewise to better resemble both the show and the original toy. He now has Decepticoninsigniason his robot chest and tank turret, for the first time in the history of themold. It also has the distinction on being the only version of the mold to have a metallic purple turret, further increasing screen accuracy.
All promotional photographs of this piece showed it deliberately mistransformed in vehicle mode, with the cannon left stretched above the turret, apparently to make it lookmore show-accurateless like a real-world tank.
Galvatron was sold as part of a "Specialist: Decepticons"giftsetalongsideAstrotrainandOctane. This was a Hasbro Asian market release, with the packaging and paperwork entirely in English.

Titans Return

Turn his "jet mode" upside down and it's a gun—PASS IT ON!
  • Nucleon & Galvatron(Voyager Class, 2016)
    • Series / Number:?
    • Accessories:'Nucleon' Titan Master partner, cannon
Galvatron is a Voyager-class mold as part of theTitans Returnsubline imprint, partially inspired by Guido Guidi's design fromSpotlight: Galvatron. He transforms into his original cannon mode and also has a third mode as a space fighter. He includes a "Nucleon"Titan Masterpartner that can turn into the robot's head, or can pilot the vehicle modes. Like many of the weapons in theTitans Returnline, his particle cannon features a cockpit for a Titan Master figure; it is undocumented in his instructions, but can be found by simply flipping up the back of the weapon.
Like allTitans ReturnVoyager-class figures, Galvatron has a spring-loaded pop-out adornment to "bulk up" his head to slightly more appropriate proportions. In his case, it's a "mask" of sorts that consists of his signature crown and chinstrap that swings out of his chest. Unfortunately, it doesn't sit flush against his face due to the mask's overall thickness, and has minimal neck articulation, which has the effect of immobilizing the head pretty much entirely. Initial prototypes of the figure showed Nucleon with purple paint applications to help blend in with the surrounding mask, but the retail version is entirely unpainted grey plastic. The TakaraLegendsrelease however, features the same paint mask as the prototypes.
Many samples of this mold suffer from the running Titan Master design flaw, leading to loose or overly-tight neck ports. Several purple parts of the figure are in fact black plastic painted purple, the shade of which is visually mismatched to the actual purple plastic.
Thepromotional images for this figuredepict a different sculpt for the crown-mask. This tooling lasted late enough in the development process that it surfaced onsome prototypes.According toJohn Warden, the mold included apretooledalternate head which was "an animated Galvatron", and a toy-based silver version of the figure had been conceptualised, but neither of these possibilities were followed through on.[1]
Galvatron was retooled intoGenerations SelectsSuper Megatron.

THIS MOLDAGAIN?AND WHERE IS MY 5MM COMPATIBLE LEFT HAND? CYCLONUS HAS THEM!!!
  • Rise of Rodimus Prime(Platinum Edition 2-pack, 2017)
    • Accessories:Gun, Missile, Matrix of Leadership
Part of Hasbro'sPlatinum Editionofferings for 2016 intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary ofThe Transformers: The Movie, this Galvatron is another redeco of the 2008UniverseDeluxe Class figure, meant to be in "movie-accurate"colors but attempting so in a manner slightly different from previous versions. Notably, it features the return of the" mistaken "tank mode paint color on the left arm. It also uses the Decepticon insignia from thelive-action film seriesinstead of theGeneration 1variety.
Galvatron was available as part of a 2-pack withRodimus Prime(a redeco of theTitanium Seriesfigure), aptly named "Rise of Rodimus Prime", which also contained aMatrix of Leadershipaccessory, a redeco of the Matrix originally included withMasterpieceMP-10 Convoy/Optimus Primewhich Galvatron can loosely hold in his right hand.
Like several of the 2016Platinum Editionsets, "Rise of Rodimus Prime" saw a very limited release: Basically, the two-pack was released in some of Hasbro's Asian markets, was stocked by some online retailers in the United States that obtain their stock through Asian vendors (such asBigBadToyStoreand TFSource), and aside from that apparently only ever saw a wider release inBrazil,of all places, where it was also first officially revealed by Hasbro at ABRIN (the Brazilian Toy Fair) in April of 2016.That's it.The set never saw an official Hasbro-initiated release in the United States.

War for Cybertron Trilogy

(thumbnail)
Oh look, an appetizer!
War for Cybertron TrilogyUnicroncomes with aminusculefigurineof Galvatron, only about 10 millimeters tall. The original announcement showed a sculpt based on Galvatron'sTitans Returndesign, in three colors, but the final released figurine was based on the G1 design, in a single color. Due to this toy's tiny size and the fact that it is completely painted, many of its details are indistinct. Also in comparison to the prototype seen in a hobby magazine, the space between the arms and torso is held by a thin plastic burr, mainly to prevent fragility.

War for Cybertron: Kingdom

(thumbnail)
I shall provide you with a new body, and, 35 years later, a neck.
The sole new release in the third wave ofKingdomLeader Class toys, Galvatron transforms from an extremelyaccuraterobot into a treaded, tripod "Galactic cannon" in 33 steps.[3]In first, by concealing the base of the cannon within the robot torso, the toy's transformation manages to depict the purple-upper body-to-grey-cannon trick as seen in the animation, a design goal since the 2008Universetoy. The rear "leg" of the cannon is on multiple hinges, allowing the toy to aim at different elevations. He featuresprintedlight purple "battle damage" on his upper torso along with opaque orange "particle" effects at the base of his cannon barrel, andpaintedbattle damage on his lower legs, similar to figures from the previous twoWar for Cybertron Trilogytoylines. As part of theC.O.M.B.A.T. System/F.O.S.S.I.L. Technology,Galvatron has multiple5 mm ports, though he is missing 3 mm posts on his body forFire Blast effects.
Galvatron's particle beam cannon can be mounted onto multiple 5 mm ports, including his forearm or upper arm, or separated into two pieces for cannon mode. He also includes theMatrix of Leadership, modified from the one first included withEarthriseOptimus Prime. The changed molding allows it to mount onto an included chain via a 5mm post, which can rest around his neck or attach at the base of the cannon barrel in his alternate mode. Galvatron also includes two unpainted greyWar for Cybertron TrilogyUnicron-scaledRevengeships that Galvatron can hold as blasters, combine into a larger gun, store on his back (at two-different heights), or attach parallel to the barrel in his cannon mode.
While the treads on his arms can be securely locked into holes in the shoulders, doing this restricts arm articulation. His feet have flip-out heel extensions, though they're hardly needed since he's heavy enough to be sturdy in most poses. Tip: The ankle tilts are slightly restricted due to the engineering in his legs. Untabbing the purple clips below his knees should help get more tiltage.
Earlier specimens of Galvatron have amisassemblyin the robot shoulders: the center joint is installed upside-down, causing the shoulders to sit lower than intended. The height issue can be somewhat corrected by using the reversible transformation joint to have the back of the shoulders face forward instead, but this results in flathead pins being left prominently exposed, while adding one more extra step on the transformation. The holes the pins are placed in are 5mm compatible, so you may be able to use the misassembly to your advantage. Arunning changelater fully corrected the shoulder assembly; the condition of the shoulders is visible inpackaged specimens.[5]
Much like most of the toyline, Galvatron comes with one of four possible holographicGolden Diskcards for his wave, which reveals apossible destinyof a key character. Specifically,Megatron's destiny for his wave is becoming Galvatron.

The instruction manual does not depict one of Galvatron's forehead stickers or any of those for his belt, and it also suggests applying his cannon-mode insignias in a way that would leave them upside down. Watchtron

(thumbnail)
Not only do I tell time, I defy it as well.
  • Galvatron(Watch, 1986, 1993)
    • Japanese ID number:W-3
Galvatron was one of three characters released as digital watches in Japan by Takara in 1986 to promote theScramble Citytoyline(the others beingUltra Magnus&Superion). Cross-promoted inTV Magazine's mangaas awrist-communicator,"Watchtron" (ウォッチトロン) Galvatron is a small representation of the character with a clock in his chest. With the push of a lever he "transformed" into a full tiny figure complete with legs, standing up on the watch band. The figure cannot be removed from the watch, but the arms do rotate.
The cannon barrel can detach and isveryeasily lost.
Takara originally planned a North American release of the Galvatron watch toy in 1986 and photographs of it were shown in their 1986 US product catalog. For unknown reasons, its intended 1986 release in the US was cancelled. It eventually came out as part ofGeneration 2.

Like mostTransformers Gummodel kits, Galvatron is essentially a downsized version of the regular toy, featuring all its accessories. As the name suggests, rather than chocolate, Galvatron came with a stick of gum.

This vinyl figurine of Galvatron was one of two entries in theTalkformersline. Featuring only two points of articulation in the shoulders, it spoke four pullstring-activated Japanese phrases, spoken by Galvatron's Japanese voice actor,Seizō Katō.These four phrases were later recycled for the 2006 reissue of the original Galvatron toy.

Super High-Breed Model

I can't transform? This is YOUR fault, Cyclonus!
  • Galvatron(1987, 1997)
Galvatron was one of three non-transformingSuper High-Breed Modelvinyl figurines created in 1987 by Takara. Standing at about eight inches tall and featuring articulation in the neck and shoulders, Galvatron and his fellows (Rodimus PrimeandArcee) were based on theirStudio OXcharacter models, featuring much more anime-styled proportions and detailing.
While the mass-market release of theSuper High-Breed Modelline was cancelled, Galvatron eventually saw the light of day as the exclusive toy forBotCon Japan 1997.The figure was initially available in two versions: "standard" purple and a translucent orange "lava bath" version limited to 100 pieces. In subsequent years, at least two more versions of this figure would be released for online sale: one that replaced the orange paint on the cannon barrel with an orange molded plastic piece, and another that replaced the entire purple body coloration with royal blue.
Very rarely, specimens from the intended 1987 release will surface on the secondary market. That version of Galvatron can be distinguished by the Decepticoninsigniaon its chest, and also by its cardboard box packaging instead of clear plastic.

Cases with the metallic Galvatron (or the Act's other" Secret Figure "Dirge) didnotcome with parts for the Act's "build-a-figure"Grand Maximus.
This Act was seemingly in shorter supply than the others before and since, and is not terribly common on the secondary market.

  • Galvatron(2006/2007unreleased)

Unfortunately, Galvatron and the rest of the "Generation One" series were casualties of the general discontinuation of First 4 Figures'Transformersoutput, which was attributed to a challenging market and a lack of retailer support.

And by "extensively," we meanabout 4 pounds of it.This figure has fewer moving parts and action features than its assortment-partnerUltimetalRodimus Primebut reaches the sameprice pointthrough far more metal mass. The figure is sculpted to resemble his anime-styledStudio OXcharacter model, while also including a rifle based on the accessory from the original G1 toy. The arm cannon lights up viaLED.
In addition to the instruction manual, a separate card warns owners that they must manually pull Galvatron's hips down and away from his pelvis before posing him, or else his codpiece will scratch the paint off his upper legs.
The package blurb describing Galvatron is a very close paraphrase of his writeup fromTransformers: More than Meets the Eye,right down to the opinions from other characters.

Notes

(thumbnail)
This toy IS a time paradox.
  • In the1986 Hasbro Pre-Toy Fair catalog,Galvatron's orange cannon iscolored dark (either black or a dark purple).Presumably, this version of the toy was based upon his early color model.
  • A triple changer was proposed which would switch between a very awkward Galvatron, Megatron, and a Walther P-38 handgun with added futuristic silencer and laser sight. It is notable that the strange "Reverse Megatron" design has a mild resemblance to the also-unproduced GalvatronAction Master, especially in the chest design.
  • A Galvatron Action Master was planned at one point, but apparently went no further than a concept sketch. It is only vaguely similar to Galvatron's normal appearance and may possibly have been a "powered up" Galvatron of some sort.
