John Winfield Stephenson(b.August 9,1923-May 15,2015) was an American actor and voice actor. He worked in the animation business (particularly Hanna Barbara) beginning in the early1950's, with some of his most recognizable characters being Mr. Slate fromThe Flintstones,Doggie Daddy fromAugie Doggy,Captain Murphy fromSealab 2020,General Flagg and Col. Sharp fromG.I. Joe: A Real American Heroand Professor X fromPryde of the X-Men.
Due to declining health and the onset of Alzheimer's, Stephenson retired from voice acting in 2010. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 91.

- Of all the voice actors who participated in all four seasons of the G1 cartoon, John Stephenson was the only one who did not lend his voice toThe Transformers: The Movie,though a few of his characters do make silent cameos.
