In 2007, we were all pretty sure there would be a fourth live-actionTransformersmovie with Lockdown as the main villain.

Even the Decepticons are afraid ofthisguy, because onceLockdownhas been hired to track down a subject, nothing stops him from completing his transaction short of total deactivation! Answering only to his enigmatic "Creators",Lockdown holds himself above the Autobot/Decepticon war and sees both sides as squabbling children that he has to rein in personally. He doesn't think much higher of other civilized species across the galaxy (particularly humans), though isn't above working with them if it suits him.

Lockdown is a bounty hunter at heart, always fulfilling the contracts and missions he is assigned to as long as he is paid. He doesn't really care what he has to do in order to fulfill his contract, eager to destroy entire planets if it's necessary. His respect for other species is not too great either, sometimes mumbling about his own clients and speaking to them sarcastically. Lockdown's been known to loot weaponry from the foes he kills, so his armory is constantly changing![1]

These days, a long scar runs down his face. There are many rumors about where it came from, some saying it was a run-in withMegatron, but nobody knows for sure...[1]

I have ahooknow, happy?

Lockdown was tasked by the mysteriousCreatorsto capture all their rogue "knights." He spent centuries on the task, using a commandeered and convertedshipthat had once belonged to the knights themselves as a mobile prison for containing and transporting his various captives. Eventually, he succeeded in capturing all of the knights save one—Optimus Prime. To acquire this last prize, Lockdown travelled toEarthand joined forces with the human organizationCemetery Wind, who were in the process of hunting and killing any surviving Cybertronians who had survived the battle ofChicago. In exchange for the safe apprehension of Prime, he promisedHarold AttingeraSeed,a device that could cyberform a massive area of land. Several years after the Battle of Chicago, Lockdown and Cemetery Wind located Optimus Prime inMexico Cityand attacked; though Lockdown was able to grievously wound Prime, the human operatives failed to contain Prime, and he escaped and went into hiding.

Continuing to work with Cemetery Wind, Lockdown aided in the pursuit ofRatchet, lurking in nearby waters and disabling the Autobot medic from afar with his head-cannon after the humans had crippled him. When Ratchet refused to divulge Optimus's location, Lockdown ripped hissparkfrom his chest. Soon after, he met with Attinger on the hull of his ship to discuss their arrangements, where the bounty hunter expressed his disgust withhumansand mused that none of the species he had worked with in his travels had really understood their place in the universe.

An anonymous tip from apanicked civilianallowed Cemetery Wind to locate Optimus in at the home ofCade YeagerinTexas.Lockdown pulled up to a nearby baseball field and transformed, deploying his hook to clamber up a nearby grain silo. When Optimus revealed himself and began fighting back against Cemetery Wind's human operatives, Lockdown bombarded the Yeager homestead with a flurry of missiles, destroying it. Lockdown later pursued Prime across the highway, and eventually engaged Prime in battle on the roof of an abandoned factory. Prime managed to momentarily disable Lockdown by tossing him into a crane cable, allowing the Autobot leader to escape once again with his human allies; Lockdown freed himself in time to try and stop them with a grenade, but the only victim of its blast wasLucas Flannery.

GIVE ME YOUR- Err.. face-gun!

Later, after the Autobots stormedKSI,Optimus was battlingGalvatronwhen Lockdown ambushed Prime and took him andTessa Yeagercaptive. After moving his ship over Chicago to deliver the promised Seed to Cemetery Wind, Lockdown locked Prime up with the otherKnightsthat he had captured, explaining to the defeated Autobot the origins of his ship and why the Creators wanted him. Unbeknownst to Lockdown, the other Autobots and humans had already boarded his ship in order to free Prime and Tessa; whenCrosshairsfired the ship's anchors in order to prevent it from taking off, the bounty hunter merely assumed one of his prisoners had broken free, and dispatched a pack ofSteeljawsto deal with the problem. The beasts detached the anchors, and Lockdown took off into space, unaware that the Autobots had rescued Prime and stolen the section of his ship containing his prize trophy case.

Half the hunter he used to be.

Discovering the truth part-way into his journey, the furious Lockdown ordered a return to Earth. Arriving in the midst of a battle between the Autobots and KSI drones inHong Kong,Lockdown utilized a magnetic weapon on his ship to wreak havoc on the city, but it was soon destroyed by Optimus. Lockdown descended to Hong Kong to battle him in person, leading to a vicious fight that saw Lockdown take the upper hand after Optimus diverted his attention to save Cade Yeager from Attinger. Lockdown impaled Prime on his ownsword, mocking him for his choice to save the human, but before the bounty hunter could finish him,Bumblebee,Cade, Tessa andShane Dysonall teamed up against him. Lockdown was able to dispatch Bumblebee, and then turned on Cade, but failed to notice that Shane and Tessa had freed Optimus. Optimus slew Lockdown by brutally bisecting him with his sword, and destroyed what remained of his body when he used one of Lockdown's grenades to finish off the remaining KSI drones.

And we thought Lockdown always fulfilled his contracts. Age of Extinction

Back to the basics.

One of Lockdown's latest targets wasRatchet, whose destruction he will be paid handsomely for. Once he has accepted a contract, nothing short of total deactivation can stop him. While his services have never come cheap, he considers himself to be the best there is at what he does. Having never lost a target, Lockdown had no intentions for the hunt for Ratchet to be the first time.Revenge of the FallenDeluxe Lockdown

Another Autobot target Lockdown has run afoul of wasArcee.[2]

A long time ago, Lockdown trainedAxorin the arts of bounty-hunting. Though this motivated the younger hunter to rebuildhimselfto better resemble his teacher, Lockdown would deny it if asked. Axor views his mentor as his closest comrade, which Lockdown has been willing to let him believe.[3]

Lockdown does not necessarily care about the Decepticon cause in the slightest. He only bears the Decepticon insignia because his closest comrade Megatron is the one paying him for capturing the targets he hunts inenergon chips.[2]Though Lockdown has worked alone in the past, he never failed to bring in an Autobot he was assigned to capture.Speed StarsLockdown

As one of the most feared bounty hunters in the universe, Lockdown captures and collects every prize he tracks in hismassive prison ship.Few of his targets have managed to outmaneuver him, and even fewer have escaped his jails. Lockdown was cruising the city streets when he was encountered byRatchet, who had been alerted to Lockdown's presence byOptimus Primedue to their "violent history". For blocks, Lockdown fled Ratchet silently as the Autobot fired hisEMPblaster until he transformed intorobot modeand expressed his frustration. Finally, when Ratchet's EMP blaster failed him, Lockdown transformed as well. He mocked Ratchet for never being able to best him, knocked him around, and when the Autobot had had enough, the Decepticon bounty hunter stole Ratchet's EMP blaster as a memento. As Lockdown sped away, he wondered if he could fix Ratchet's faulty weapon.Cyber Missions #3

Later, Lockdown managed to evadeDiego Garcia's security measures and sneak into Autobot Headquarters undetected. After cutting power to the facilities, he sneaked up behindSideswipein the target practice range. Ratchet's EMP blaster, attached to Lockdown's arm, was now in proper working order, and the bounty hunter vowed to also take Sideswipe's new sidearms. Lockdown was shocked when the EMP blaster was shot off his arm and out of his reach by Ratchet. Wounded, the Decepticon fled. Unfortunately for Lockdown, he retreated to the medical bay, where Ratchet's surgical tools restrained and sedated him.Cyber Missions #7

In the grim darkness of the recent past, there is only war!

Five years before the Battle ofChicago,[4]Lockdown was part of a three-Con team withDriftandKnuckleheadon Cybertron. While Drift wanted to take an Autobot outpost with minimal bloodshed, Lockdown thought this was sissy hippy crap and they should just bomb everything (even though that would mean having no outpost to capture); when they sneaked instead, he disobeyed orders and decided to execute prisoners out of hand. Drift stopped him, giving a gleeful Lockdown the chance to claim the guy was a traitor and kill him off. Knucklehead and Drift sent him down into a molten moat, swearing revenge on them both. Of course, he couldn't actually kill them while Megatron was still in charge, or the big boss would be unhappy.Adrift in Space and Time

As well as being a Decepticon, Lockdown had a profitable sideline as a bounty hunter and hired killer. He claimed the bounty on theCoseem crime gang's boss.Locked In!

With anew body,he went to Earth soon after and ended up captured byNESTunder unknown circumstances... only to become part ofBludgeon's 2010 jailbreak! He joined Bludgeon's splinter cell of Decepticons and took great pleasure in talking out all his "hurting" onSmokescreen.Inside Out!When the Autobots tracked down the Decepticon base inRussia,Lockdown was ordered to prepare an ambush for them. He loyally served Bludgeon in this until Megatron arrived,Divided Loyaltiesand then he not-so-loyally ran away.A Short, Sharp Lesson!

Near the end of theBattle of Chicago,Lockdown (now back in his old body!) immediately murdered Knucklehead as soon as Megatron died. Drift, now an Autobot, found the corpse on the moon and knew the hunter had become more powerful than before.Adrift in Space and Time

Lockdown soon took control of the remaining Decepticon forces on Earth but kept himself out of the limelight. He oversaw an ambush inIndonesia:three Decepticons would kill a few hundred humans, getting the predictable Autobots to give chase and be ambushed at an oldDutchfort. He watched asCrosshairsdidn't rush in head on and wiped out his team, but the Autobots remained unaware he was around sohewas alright!Thousand Island Fight

He later left Earth to make some more cash bounty-hunting but was tricked into capturingSojex,a Coseem hitwoman who took control of his ship and turned his own defences on him. He cut through them all and when attacked byscraplets,he quietlydealt with themwhile using holograms to make Sojex think he was dead. After her defeat, Lockdown was contacted bynew employerswith a job on Earth.Locked In!

I used to be very well paid, I want to be well paid again!

Some time during his stay on Earth, Lockdown tracked down theDark Sparkas it made its way toward the planet. The Autobots realized the destruction the relic could cause and moved to retrieve it, only to be stopped by the bounty hunter. Intercepting the Autobots, Lockdown grabbed the Dark Spark first and took it for himself. Despite Optimus Prime's pleas, Lockdown was more interested in the profit he could make from its power. As Prime attempted to tackle Lockdown and take the artifact, Lockdown activated its power and froze the Autobots in place long enough to escape.

Later, the Autobots attempted to infiltrate Lockdown's base but were unsuccessful. Drift was captured while Bumblebee escaped, but only long enough to find an alternate path to retrieve his colleague. Lockdown sent a titan after them to prevent their escape, but the Autobots were able to slip out and regroup.

Finally breaking into Lockdown's base, they discovered he had been using the power of the Dark Spark to create a time bridge to go back in time and prevent the Autobot's victory at the Battle of Chicago. In doing so, he would revive the war and with it his main source of income. Optimus once again pleaded to rethink, citing the destruction that Earth would have to endure if the war were to continue, but as usual Lockdown didn't care. Optimus once again tried to tackle Lockdown, who activated the Dark Spark's power again to stop him in mid-air. In true super villain fashion, Lockdown monologued his plan rather than do something about Prime, who was able to break free of the Dark Spark's power. The two fought to a standstill until Drift was able to move in and cut the Dark Spark from Lockdown's chest. Fumbling to catch it, Lockdown instead knocked it into Drift's hand long enough for Optimus to activate the Matrix of Leadership and blast it into the time bridge. Lockdown took the opportunity to escape, swearing that "this isn't the end".Rise of the Dark Spark (console)

Revenge of the Fallen

  • Lockdown(Deluxe Class,2010)
  • TakaraTomy ID number:RD-26
  • Accessories:Engine
  • Known designers:Takashi Kunihiro(TakaraTomy)
Lockdown's design strongly homages hisTransformers Animatedcounterpart, but with a completely different transformation. Once again, Lockdown transforms into an amalgam of a 1980s Corvette and a 1960s Cougar, with lots of spikes and a cow-catcher on his bumper. The toy'sMech Alivefeature rotates cylinders inside his thighs as his lower legs rotate, and pneumatic cylinders extend as his Capture Hook is deployed. Unfortunately, the Capture Hook is made ofextremelysoft plastic, which may cause it to deform easily in robot mode or droop and rub against the floor when rolling him in vehicle mode.
Lockdown may have the most articulated neck ever for a Transformer, having three ball joints and a swivel joint. Craziness.
Similar to hisAnimatedcounterpart, Lockdown's arm-mounted hot rod engine weapon can be removed and can be replaced byRevenge of the FallenDeluxeRatchet's weapon. Likewise, Ratchet can store Lockdown's engine on his roof; it cannot, however, attach to his arm. Interestingly, the plug for Lockdown's engine is the same general shape as the plug forAnimatedLockdown's EMP blaster/engine, but smaller; as such, it isn't compatible withAnimatedLockdown, or withAnimatedRatchetorIronhide, for that matter.
Much like his Animated incarnation, he is much taller than other Deluxes, being almost Voyager-sized or larger depending on how his digitigrade leg joints are arranged.
This mold was retooled to make2010Axoras well asTimelinesCircuit. This toy wasrepurposedasGeneration 1Lockdown.

  • Lockdown(Deluxe Class,2014)
Lockdown transforms into an officially licensed (in fact, the only licensed toy of Lockdown released in theAge of Extinctionline) Lamborghini Aventador. He comes with a friction-fire sniper rifle that can either be held in his hands using5 mm posts,or attached to his head with a smaller peg to simulate his "gun-face" from theAge of Extinctionfilm. Two additional pegs are molded into the gun forvehicle modeattachment. His transformation shares similarities to DeluxeRoadbuster's.
Takara Tomy'sMovie Advanced Seriesversion of the figure replaces much of the robot mode's grey plastic with black, intending to create a more movie-accurate appearance.
Note that the stock photos provided here are mis-transformed. The Hasbro version has the right side of the chest collapsed too far into the abdomen, and both versions should have their upper shoulders folded further down in order to properly tab into place. Unlike previous toys of the character, this figure is actually smaller than most other Deluxes from the same line due to the size of his vehicle mode.
Lockdown was later extensively retooled asThe Last KnightHot Rod.

Robots in Disguise(2014)

(thumbnail)
Having an adequate Leader-sized Lockdown comes at the cost of having a messed up Lambo.
  • Lockdown(Flip & Change, 2014)
Part of the second wave of Flip & Change assortment, Lockdown is a simplified toy that can auto-transform from vehicle to robot by pulling out the arms first and then flipping the figure over itself. He features articulation on his arms and features 5 mm compatible hands.
Lockdown shares his transformation scheme with his fellow Flip & Changers Bumblebee and Drift. He was later retooled intoHot Rod.

(TakaraTomy version pictured)
  • Lockdown(One-Step Changers, 2014)
  • TakaraTomy ID number:LA09
  • Known designers:John Warden(Hasbro)
Similar to an Activators toy, Lockdown can transform into a robot by pressing a button on his vehicle mode. This version of him doesnothave a licensed Lamborghini Aventador car mode (No licensing information is printed on his packaging, nor does the car have a Lamborghini symbol). Oddly enough, Lockdown's entire back is sculpted with great detail, despite this not being visible without taking the toy apart. His only articulation is the forearms, which can swing up and down.
After transforming into robot mode, Lockdown can be transformed back by pushing the top of the car down, but be careful when setting him down, as he might pop back into robot mode if you aren't careful.
The Japanese release of Lockdown does away with the blue paint on his robot mode and car rear and features black and metallic blue paint detail on his robot parts for slight extra screen accuracy.
Lockdown was later retooled intoHot Rod.

He also has a pair of extra arms (originally from theKre-O Battleshipaliens), a buildable "head gun" (though it cannot be pushed all the way down on the neck-peg as shown in his instructions) and aKlingonblaster rifle originally from theStar Trek Kre-Osets, enhanced with a small "technic" peg.

  • ID number:QT-25,QTF-03
Lockdown (Yoroshikuu!) matches the character's appearance in theQ-Transformerscartoon, which is in turn based on hisRevenge of the Fallendesign but with a vehicle mode inspired by the Lamborghini Aventador. In fact, he matches up with the Lockdown design unlocked in theQ-Transformersgame by theprevioustoy. The "Yoroshikuu!" added to his name means, roughly, "Best regards!" (よろしくぅ!), though in Lockdown's case it's meant in a sarcastic manner used by stereotypical Japanese delinquents. This line is something of a catchphrase of Lockdown's in theQ-Transformerscartoon.
This toy was re-released with a new ID number as part of the secondQ-Transformersseries.

The second Lockdown toy was also sold in a three-pack with fellow cartoon main charactersOptimus PrimeandBumblebee. They come with a cardboard backdrop to be displayed that depicts a typical service area of a Japanese expressway, much like the real locations the characters stand around in in the cartoon.
Although usually sold in Japanese markets, some department stores in Asia had sold the set as well.

  • Movie:Age of Extinction
  • Hasbro ID number:11
  • TakaraTomy ID number:SS-10
  • TakaraTomy release date:July 28,2018
  • Accessories:Hook, arm-blade, "Enemy ShipInfiltration "backdrop
Studio SeriesLockdown is a Deluxe Class mold that transforms into a licensed Lamborghini Aventador and back, offering a much more screen-accurate depiction of his on-screen stature and proportions than previous molds. Lockdown comes with a new blade/blaster weapon and an articulated hook claw, though his face-gun is omitted (if you're an enterprising fan, you can jury-rig aFan modeusing the face-gun of the original AOE mold). He also includes a cardboard backdrop depicting a hangar within the Knight Ship.
In an undocumented feature, Lockdown'sfaux-chestis on a hinge, allowing his chest to not be quite as flat as it comes in-package. Exercise caution while swiveling the upper elbow joint as it was molded in translucent plastic: It can snap off if not done carefully. The cylindrical tabs on the rear of his alt mode can also snap off due to the way it attaches to his feet.
This mold was later redecoed and retooled for aShadow Raider.

  • Lockdown(2010)
  • Series:Metal Heroes

Robot Powered MachinesMini-Vehicle Lockdown is a small, non-transforming,die-castrendition of his vehicle mode. His robot mode is sculpted underneath the vehicle, and his wheels use through-axle construction that lets the toy zip around at high speeds on smooth surfaces. He has more painted details than the more widely-releasedSpeed Starsversion below.
RPMLockdown appears to have been released only in some European markets; known samples are in a small polybag with a cardboard header in five languages. The header has Lockdown's name, but no art, cross-sell, bio, or other character information. The precise details of this seemingly-nonstandard release are unknown. While only "Stunticon" Lockdown was officially listed during the run of theRPMseries (on the back of the Asian market release ofRPM"Stunticon"Bumblebee), images of both versions were revealed by a downloadable poster on the officialTransformerswebsite of Turkey.

When shown atBotCon 2010,Lockdown had a completely different color scheme, being predominantly gold with blue flames on his hood, green hubcaps, a red engine, and a gray bumper and spoiler. Though this version of "Metal Heroes" Lockdown was also depicted on a downloadable poster on theSpeed Starswebsite, the toy was eventually released using Lockdown's proper colors.
This mold was also used to makeSpeed StarsStunticon SeriesAxel.

  • Series:Stunticon

"Stunticon" Lockdown is a redeco of his previousSpeed Starstoy in black, purple, and red–orwasback when the line wasRobot Powered Machines(see above). Though Lockdown is listed on the back ofSpeed StarsStunticonBumblebee's packaging, a Lockdown redeco named Axor was shown as part of the Stunticon series atBotCon 2010(who was in turn named as Axel on theSpeed Starswebsite). Given there were a few wholesale deco changes betweenRPMsandSpeed Starswithin series, it's possible that Lockdown's place in the Stunticons was taken by Axor/Axel... but considering that ALL of these items seem to be canceled, it's impossible to say for certain.

"Check out my new weapon. My weapon of choice."
  • The head onRevenge of the FallenDeluxe Lockdown's instruction lineart is actually that of his retool,Axor. The head can be seen in much clearer detail on page 8 of theSan Diego Comic-ConHasbro Design Sketchbook, volume 2.
  • Hasbro'sRevenge of the Fallenwebsite describes both Arcee and Ratchet as Lockdown's enemy on their respective pages, mirroring the relationship between theirAnimatedcounterparts.
  • In reference to hisAnimatedcounterpart, Lockdown'sAge of Extinctionincarnation has the ability to transform his hands into various weapons, such as the famous hook, a blaster, a spark extractor device, and even his chainsaw-hand. He can also turn his head into a sniper rifle-esque cannon, lending credence to the fact that he's probably been building on himself like his original incarnation. Some concept art also showed him characteristically taking and equipping Ratchet's saw after he had terminated the Autobot.
  • According to his Battle Bio, Lockdown possesses a "Supercharger"which he uses to store kinetic energy. The energy stored in this way can later be used to increase his speed and strength, which in turn allows him to move in for the kill with a burst of power.[5]The Battle Bio also states that Lockdown is equipped with a "skeletal spinal cord" that provides him with agility far beyond that of the average Cybertronian.
  • Early concept art for Lockdown indicates that at one point he would have hewed closer to his originalAnimateddesign; not only would he have sported a green-and-black color scheme and a tattered "poncho",[6]he would also have transformed into a weatherbeaten muscle car with an exposed engine block.[7]Presumably, hisalternate modeand design were altered so that Lamborghini couldadvertise their new sports cars.
  • Later concept art byJosh Nizziwould depict Lockdown with a large sniper rifle and a trophy belt decorated with severed fingers and ears from past kills adorning his hip. According to Nizzi, Lockdown was planned to be a "Christopher Walken type", hence the concept art's resemblance to the actor.[8]
  • Two proposedFun PublicationsBotConexclusiveswere a redeco ofRevenge of the FallenLockdowninto "Marlboor Wheeljack" (conceived prior toExhaustreceiving his name from Takara) and aShattered Glassversion ofStrangleholdusing theAxortooling (and would have had a mustache!).[9]
  • Aside from his unaligned status, there is another reason for the lack of an insignia on Lockdown's vehicle mode: the prop car used to portray him was personally owned by Mr. Bay himself.
