Lorenzo di Bonaventura(bornJanuary 13,1957) is an American film producer, long-time collaborator ofMichael Bay,and the godfather of pretty much every single blockbusterTransformersfilm. During the 1990s he served as an executive at Warner Bros. Pictures, climbing up the ranks to become President of Worldwide Production. While at Warner, some of his more noteworthy accomplishments included discovering and overseeing the production ofThe Matrixtrilogy of movies (which starredHugo Weaving)(yay!)as well as securing the rights to theHarry Potterseries(boo!)before leaving in2002to form his own production company. For the next twenty years, he stewarded the film arm of theTransformersbrandat the helm of the self-titledDi Bonaventura Pictures(in association withParamount) through hell or high water, where he continues to this day.
Outside of theTransformersbrand, some of his other projects include all threeG.I. Joefilms, Keanu Reeves' cult classicConstantine, thefourth sequel toThe Hunt for Red October, andMadame Web.

Notes
- Di Bonaventura's enthusiasm for the broad strokes ofTransformerslore and approximate knowledge of many scripts have resulted in a reputation amongst thefandomfor eccentric answers when fielding story questions in interviews. Things took a turn for the adversarial in the late 2010s, when the combination of the film series spicing up its chronology and nerds inheriting the earth in the wake of the runaway success of projects like theMarvel Cinematic Universeled to him being seemingly cursed by a witch to get constant questions from real journalists about which in-progress films were "canon"to each other. We would do well to remind readers the next time that he gets mined for clickbait that:
- As a money man, scripting is not his job and his answers to story questions should not be considered final or precise.
- The beauty of the construction of theTransformermultiverseis that everything "counts" to everything else, regardless of what happens in any individual project.
- "It's just a show, and I should really relax."
- Lorenzo citesIronhideas his favorite character he's worked on, finding his enthusiasm for exploding things oddly endearing. Ironhide is also the favorite of one of his sons, who has never quite forgiven him for killing him off inDark of the Moon.[1]
- He also has a fondness forMini-Cons.[2]
