The creature that would become the Matrixspawn crawled into the cracked chest ofOptimus Prime's corpse in its search for a place to die. There, it was analysed by the Matrix, and its aimless predatory qualities brought forth memories of the experiences the artifact had obtainedwhilein the possession of the corruptedDeathbringer.Fascinated, the Matrix opted to recreate the creature into a larger and stronger version. Its first act thereafter was to attach itself to the face of a member of theVsQs Exploration Teamthat had come to investigate the strange power source. Supposedly, this killed him, but the other two managed to escape to their base in time to notify the others, though too late to prepare adequately for the creature's arrival. After slaughteringall but one,the Matrixspawn made the exploration team's base its own lair.

After a while, teams ofAutobotsandDecepticonsmade their way to the VsQs base insearch for the Matrix.The Matrixspawn observed them at first, then attackedthe one standing aside from the fight.This drew the attention of the otherTransformers,andThunderwingsaw that the creature was dripping with Matrix energy. The panic that the Matrix experienced at being discovered made the creature flee. A hunt ensued in which the AutobotClassic Pretendersfirst found and were found by the Matrixspawn, but Thunderwing smashed his way through them to get to the Matrix. Recognizing Thunderwing as the greatest danger, the Matrixspawn attacked him for ownership of the Matrix.Dark CreationBumblebeetried to get away with the Matrix while the Decepticon and the creature were preoccupied, but the Matrix called out for its two "suitors". The Matrixspawn was more distracted by this than Thunderwing, allowing thePretenderto impale the Matrixspawn on some pointy thing sticking out of the wall, killing it.All Fall Down
