- Mudslinger is anAutobotMicromasterfrom theGeneration 1continuity family.
Mudslingerdoesn't respond well to even friendly criticism. He's got a chip on his shoulder bigger than his monster tires, and a need to prove his toughness to the world. Unfortunately, this tends to be in the form of breaking cover and charging headlong into battle when theOff Road Patrolis supposed to be keeping covert.Highjumpis particularly annoyed by this unprofessional and dangerous behavior, andPowertrain’s careful attempts to talk to Mudslinger about it have yet to yield any positive result. It’s especially frustrating for the team since Mudslinger is actually very good at camouflage when he puts his mind to it.[1]

Alongside the rest of the Off Road Patrol, Mudslinger was summoned toEarthbyOptimus Primeto serve as reinforcements for the Autobots stationed on the planet. He was as rebellious as the rest of 'em, immediately explaining that the only reason they even came was to get some action. For their first mission, the Off Road Patrol was sent to investigate some supposed "monsters" in the swamps ofNew Jersey, and Mudslinger soon stumbled upon theDecepticonsSkullgrinandIguanus. Not fearing the larger Transformers one bit, he leapt into action and savedCecilia Santiagofrom their grasp. After he was joined by his teammates, Mudslinger wrecked the weather-control device Skullgrin was guarding, but unfortunately the forces of nature were too far along to stop. Luckily, theRace Car Patrolwere able to stop the Decepticons from collecting the storm's energies in the Big Apple, foiling their plot utterly. After the mission's completion, the Micromasters regrouped at the base of theEmpire State Building, where Optimus offered to pick them up, so they could avoid any trouble from the local law enforcement agents. The Micromasters refused Optimus's help, preferring to instead act as an independent unit and deal with such matters their own way.King Con!

- Together with theAir Strike Patroland theRace Car Patrol, the Off Road Patrol was released by Hasbro in late 1988 (basically, a case of "next year product" being released at the end of the old year), in packaging that differed from the "proper" 1989 Micromasters' redesigned packaging (silver cards and boxes featuring an all-new "Transformers" logo) by retaining a variation of the faction-specific color-coded gradient background on the card and featuring a unique "Micro Transformers" title in a variation of the old, pre-1989 "Transformers" logo. This same basic packaging design was also used for Canada (albeit bilingual English/French) and parts of Europe (bilingual French/Dutch, and Italian-only packaging distributed byGiG). However, a variant of sorts featuring the later 1989 packaging design also exists, and was released (in English-only packaging) in the United Kingdom, where it was sold at Woolworth's stores.
- The "Off Road Patrol Team"was sold in Japan a year later as part of Takara'sZoneportion of theFight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformersseries, with no notable changes from theirHasbroreleases.
