- Ratchet is an evilAutobot"medic" from theShattered Glasscontinuity family.
To sayRatchetis theAutobots' medic would be a falsehood. RatchetiswhereOptimus Primesends the wounded from battle, but not forrepairs. No, they are sent there forpunishment.Any Autobot ordered there has to be dragged kicking and screaming.
It's not that Ratchet wants to terrorize his patients. In fact, he honestly believes that he's doing them a great favor! Who wouldn't want some rusty old equipment replacing their head? That would look so cool! And he really doesn't understand why they get so upset after seeing the result of his loving care. But Ratchet shrugs off their cries of protest and confusion. They'll come around eventually.Somemay say his morbid operations as a result of a past trauma, that his methods are an attempt toprovesomething, but no one can quite say for sure.

Notes
- In the originalShattered Glasscontinuity, Ratchet's first body is based onEnergonCombat ClassRoadblock's, with a new head. The character was intended to have a scrubs-based mint green as his base color.[1]InEvan Gauntt's pre-final "flat color" version[2]of Ratchet's first appearance, Ratchet is mint green in the original image. However, the dynamic lighting from the scene's overhead lamp caused other creators to interpret him as being white with green highlights instead of his intended mint green coloration. This misinterpretation of his colors has been reflected by every depiction of the character since, including his much-later Hasbro toy release. Oops?
- Ratchet's Autotrooper body is based onCombiner WarsDeluxe ClassOffroad/Trailbreakerwith aHoist-style head.
- InForged to Fight, evil Ratchet shares a CG model withhis regular counterpartas a heavily stylized version of the 2008UniverseDeluxe Class toy.
