  • Known designers:Hironori Kobayashi(deco, TakaraTomy)
Part of the third wave ofAge of Extinction-brandedGenerationstoys, Snarl transforms into a roboticStegosaurus, with a robot-mode layout inspired by hisGeneration 1 counterpart.
Snarl's largest pair of plates and thagomizer become a blade and a spiked mace for him to wield in robot mode, and can combine to form a large axe; this combination is not mentioned in his instructions, but he is shown wielding it in hisstock photography(seen at right), albeit upside down and misassembled.
Interestingly, one of his legs has a false head tucked into the side, while his real head folds in symmetrically on his other leg. This gives the impression that he hastwodinosaur heads in robot mode, which is humorous in hindsight, given that it was once theorized that stegosaurs had two brains to control motor functions.
The Japanese release of Snarl, as part of theMovie Advanced Seriestoyline, features metallic light green paint on his opaque green parts, his shoulder and pelvis parts were replaced into grey plastic, and his transparent yellow plastic is colored a bit lighter than the Hasbro edition.
The elbow joints of Hasbro Snarl's frontStegosauruslegs were subject to a running-change. Early shipments of the figure had legs which popped off very easily at the elbow joint. This issue was addressed by adding metal pins running through the elbow joints. The Takara-Tomy release of this figure does not feature these pins, and thus still suffers from the pop-off problem.
Age of ExtinctionSnarl was redecoed into Generation 1Snarlfor theSan Diego Comic-Con2014exclusiveDinobot 4-pack,and laterretooled, again as G1 Snarl, under thePlatinum Editionline.

Included in theOptimus Prime Dino Haulerkit, "Snarl" (he goes unnamed in the packaging) is a buildable Dinobot beast. The club at the end of his tail contains a magnet that attracts the metal parts on theVehiconhelmets and backpacks. The tail is flexible soft-plastic, but springs back into a straight position so he can swat away badguys.
