In2012,the Earthborn AutobotSizzleexperienced one of hisforestonite-based precognitive visions:Megaplex,Starscream, andSoundwavestanding over the broken bodies ofOptimus PrimeandGalvatron.Sizzle immediately rushed back toAutobot Cityto inform the others that the "Machine Wars"were coming.A Flash Forward, Part 6

In 2013 as the Machine Wars dawned, Starscream fought as one ofJhiaxus'sCybertronianclone generals, leading theStarscream drones.Three and a half days after the Cybertronian army's successful capture of Cybertron, Starscream stood with his field commander, Megaplex, inIacon. When Megaplex noted that the devastation gave him exhilaration, Starscream quipped that Megaplex was beginning to sound likeMegatron, prompting Megaplex to disgustedly retort that Starscream should sound less likehis own template.Just then,Skywarparrived to report the Autobot-Decepticon forces' capture ofThundercracker. As Starscream could not send in his drones without harming their comrade, Megaplex decided to handle the matter personally.

Starscream accompanied Megaplex and their forces to the meeting place withObsidian's group outside of Iacon. That was when Obsidian revealed his trump card: the entire united Autobot-Decepticon army, which had only pretended to withdraw from their cities in order to regroup and corral the clone army in one place; a massive battle ensued. Starscream tried to fightElectrobut was routed when Electro stole Megaplex's sword and electrified it with his forestonite-based power.Termination

After Jhiaxus arrived and offered the original Transformers the option to leave Cybertron in peace, which Obsidian andStrikarejected, the battle resumed. AlongsideSky-Byte,Starscream engaged several Autobots and Decepticons;Bitstreamremarked toHoistthat the Decepticons had plenty of experience dealing with a Starscream. The battle came to an end when Jhiaxus realized that he had inadvertently achieved his goal of unifying Cybertron: by fighting him, Autobots and Decepticons had put aside their grudges to fight for each other rather than against each other. Starscream obeyed the order to surrender to the joint Autobot-Decepticon army, but Jhiaxus was then murdered by Megaplex. A week later, Starscream was present at the signing of thePax Cybertroniaat Autobot City on Earth, and shookClamp Down’s hand at the ceremony.A Common Foe

TheMachine WarsStarscreamtoy represents a separate character in the 2019 IDW comics.
Starscream'sMachine Warsincarnation is a redeco of thePredatorSkyquake, transforming into a large bomber jet based vaguely upon an SR-71 Blackbird. The main feature of the toy is its "carpet bombing" gimmick; each wing contains a drum that holds up to four missiles, which drop out as the drum is rotated. A further two missiles can also store on each wing, and one on each side of his fuselage, but while Skyquake came with enough missiles to fill all these ports, Starscream only comes with ten. The short length of the missiles necessary for this gimmick to function means that Starscream does not come with Skyquake's firing missile launcher, since the missiles are shorter thanUS safety standardsallow, although it is incorrectly shown on his packaging. Starscream also lacks Skyquake'sMegavisorgimmick. The figure also features a barely noticeable yet enormous Decepticon symbol on thetop of the planerendered in black paint on black plastic.
Starscream is known to have come with either pale grey missiles, better fitting his new color scheme, or bright green missiles like Skyquake's.
This mold was later redecoed to makeKing Atlas. The toy was repurposed as theStarscream dronesinWings Universe.
