In2011,the shared Autobot and Decepticon forces under the leadership ofOptimus PrimeandGalvatronare fighting againstUnicron, who seeks to resurrect using the bodies of his disciples before theTransformerscan seal him within theTriple Z Point.Galvatron bids Optimus Prime to use theMatrix of Leadership, but it's been spent since being used to eradicate theHate Plagueand is currently recharging onEarth.Optimus wishes he had another Matrix in hand... and then suddenly the two leaders are summoned beforePrimus. The god entrusts Optimus Prime with theSilver Matrix, filled with thepower of stars.
In the present time ona strange planet,Optimus Prime is at the mercy ofKing Poseidon, who seeks to use the Silver Matrix to surpassGod Ginrai, but their confrontation is interrupted by...Megatron?"Super Megatron" reveals he has used the power of stars to attain a form like his future self and laid waste toHalfshell's crew before blowing up thephoton sailerwith them on board. Angry at the apparent end of his "brother", King Poseidon leaps to the attack with his "Full Target Mode", but Super Megatron simply repels it with a force field and repays the favor by blowing up the combiner with his "Super Jet Mode".
Super Megatron threatens to do the same to Optimus Prime. Noting that the power of the Silver Matrix that Optimus holds helped him evolve from Galvatron to his current form, Super Megatron demands the Autobot leader hand it over so that he can become even more powerful. Optimus, being the justice-minded hero he is, refuses, especially as he needs the Silver Matrix to assist in the battle against Unicron. Super Megatron just answers with a blast and ranting that he has transcended hisfuture death,so Optimus, saddened that their apparent mutual respect has fell through, regains his resolve and uses the tool available to him—the Silver Matrix!
With the Silver Matrix's heft, Optimus knocks Super Megatron out of the sky and uses its power to transform into the Star Convoy Z Base Mode. With his weapons, Star Convoy fires on the Decepticon, but the villain retreats to the city, where he grabs two of the planet'snative humanoids. With Star Convoy aghast, Super Megatron threatens to end their lives and use them as sustenance, knowing their potential as an energy source from his future memories, so the Autobot is forced to give up the Silver Matrix. The elated Super Megatron uses the Matrix to further evolve into Ultra Megatron! With his new alternate mode, the Ultra Tank, Ultra Megatron blasts at Star Convoy...

Notes
Continuity notes
- In the 2011 flashback, Bumblebee appears inhis Pretender shell, indicating an untold story where he changed forms, as his appearances as Goldbug occur before and after this story. A continuity fix for Bumblebee's appearance in "Controverse",perhaps?
- TheTriple Z Pointwas first mentioned as the resting place of Unicron's body inBeast Wars Neo;Kiss Playersestablished Unicron's physical form was sealed there in2011(due to Unicron's head not existing in media set beyond 2010) andUnite Warriorswould go on to mention it was the result of cooperation between the Autobots and the Decepticons. This comic finally portrays the events surrounding it.
- TheMatrixbeing left to recharge on Earth after being depleted to fight theHate Plaguein "The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2"was a plot point in the early episodes ofThe Headmasters.
- The planet's native lifeforms sure look similar toBeastformers, don't they? Super Megatron's reference to them as energy sources in the future likely refers toChōkon Power, key toSuper-God Masterforce,or specifically toBeast Power, which was introduced as a plot point in this comic's spiritual predecessor,Legends.
- The handshake that Optimus Prime reminisces about took place in "The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2".
- The evolution of Super Megatron into Ultra Megatron was a plot point in the originalReturn of Convoystoryline, and the toy this comic advertises goes lengths to incorporate both Super and Ultra forms as different modes.
Transformers references
- Among Unicron's disciples are theUnitedArk Unicrontoy and the DarkEgg Beasts. The body Unicron is attempting to construct from them is based on the then-yet-unreleasedWar for Cybertron TrilogyUnicrontoy.
Other notes
- This comic was revised shortly after it was uploaded online. The first and second panels of the original comic are shaped differently, with Raiden, Blast, Tigertrack, and Computron not in the original version. See right for both versions. The blood-like substance on Megatron's teeth before nearly chewing the native humanoidwas also omitted.
