Talk:DIS-Integrated Circuits!
From Transformers Wiki
Okay, folks, I need some consensus here. Obviously, the UK-only stories get their own nav boxes. And where the story branches off or re-merges, those get both the UK and US nav boxes.
But where the story flow is the same for both the US and UK (such as the sequence of "DIS-Integrated Circuits!" to "The Next Best Thing to Being There!", "Brainstorm!", and "Prime Time!" ), is there any point in having a second nav box? It might make more sense to modify the one US nav box on those pages -- maybe change the series name to "Marvel Comics / Marvel UK" or some such. I'm kind of opposed to having two navigation boxes on a page except where it's absolutely necessary. --Repowers17:01, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Alternately, if someone (*waves at Skyblitz*) wants to design a second nav box template that can accommodate both the UK and US sequences in one box, that'd be awesome. I'm just getting started on this so changing it over wouldn't be a big deal at all. --Repowers17:09, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable. I think what could work is if we just made one singular navbox specifically for Marvel books to use instead of our utilitarian one, and you give it either US parameters, UK parameters, or both. If it doesn't get one or the other, it just doesn't show it. I can do that up if it sounds good. --Suki Brits01:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- I made a similar one a few weeks back for linking the previous and next stories for the UK stories that got reprints in the UK series. Giving "Reprint" a variable and an option to make it a link would allow it to do just what we need.User:FortMax/Template:Comicnav--FortMax02:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)\
- That last one on your page looks perfect. The only thing I'd change is to enlarge the horizontal space between the US "previous/next" links and the "Marvel UK" link.
- I have no idea how to do that, nor do I know why there's more space between the "Marvel US" link and the US "Previous/Next" links than there are between the other rows. I'll ask Derik about it since he seems to be the one who knows what he's doing. --FortMax17:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
DIS-Integrated Circuits!
This has been bugging me for ages, so for my New Year's Resolution I shall finally bite the bullet and ask - why are the first three letters of this story title always capitalised on this wiki? To my eyes, Dis-integrated Circuits! looks a lot better.
Besides which, it just makes for good consistency - I mean, no-one calls issue 46 Ca$h and CAR-Nage! Do they?
Somebody in the know please explain - this has been freaking me out for years now! Cheers! --Ryan Frost(talk) 16:59, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- Let's see. Both titles are actually in all caps in on comic title page. For #9 "DIS-" is highlighted with a white shadow outline. I think the wiki's intent is to make sure the emphasis on "DIS" comes across. Really it is more like "Dis-integrated Circuits "but you can't make that an article title as far as I know. (Or maybe even"Disintegrated Circuits "since" Dis "and" integrated "are on separate lines so they could technically be one word broken up.) -Gimmick(talk) 19:16, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- What do the Marvel UK and"Comics Magazine"digest contents pages say? -SanityOrMadness(talk) 20:48, 2 January 2014 (EST)
- I don't have the Comics Magazine, but in the Transformation page in UK#33 it'sDis-Integrated Circuits!(twice - once in the editorial paragraph and also in the table of contents). It's also parsed like this in UK#34's Transformation. In the Next Week preview feature on the inside back cover of UK#32 (and in the yellow 'NEXT:' box on page 14 of the same issue) the entire title is in capitals. I suppose it might also have been written again somewhere later in the comic's run (possibly in the 'Your Choice' section of the letters page), but it'd be a nightmare to properly check all 300 subsequent issues! --Ryan Frost(talk) 12:09, 3 January 2014 (EST)
- Yes, the I is capitalised! That said, it does kinda make sense... in "Car-nage" the hyphen's only there to emphasise the joke - that the first three letters of carnage also spell out the word car. Geddit?
- But with this story it's a double wordplay: you have- Integrated Circuitswith a capital-I,but flip it round and you have Disintegrated Circuits, which is what the former Josie Beller is attempting to achieve! --Ryan Frost(talk) 16:54, 3 January 2014 (EST)
- Well, turns out we already have the TCM contents page uploaded (right)... and it's ALL-CAPS.
- I see no reason not to move it in-line with the Marvel UK capitalisation. -SanityOrMadness(talk) 17:35, 3 January 2014 (EST)
