Plot

The Decepticons have discovered that there is a large Energon deposit near Autobot Headquarters. Bumblebee, Arcee and Optimus Prime must fend off the Vehicon hordes before they use the Dark Energon mines to transform themselves into Terrorcons.

In his first mission, somewhere in the Nevada Desert, Bumblebee combats the Vehicon hordes on his own. Ratchet and Agent Fowler are able to walk him through his mission over comm-links. After Bumblebee successfully defends the mine, he follows one of the Vehicons back to an abandoned building. Upon discovering that the building is being used as an Energon prcoessing plant, Bumblebee proceeds to exterminate all of the Vehicons within, encountering Soundwave in the process.

Next, Arcee is dispatched to the outskirts ofJasper, where Starscream accompanies more Vehicon troops to collect Dark Energon. After she repels the Decepticons, she joins Bumblebee in stopping the Vehicons from reaching an abandoned military base. Once that task is completed, Arcee and Optimus Prime stop Starscream and his Terrorcons from escaping the military installation.

Megatron then joins the fray, and makes an attempt to gain control of the Autobots' Ground Bridge to return to the Nemesis with all of the Dark Energon his troops have acquired. Arcee and Optimus Prime prevent Megatron from doing so. Although they are victorious, the Autobots must remain vigilant for whatever threats the future may bring!

Gameplay

Terrorcon Defense is a "tower defense"style game. There are 6 levels, each playable in three difficulty settings;" Standard Mode, "" No Escape Mode, "and" Strong Enemies Mode. "You play as Bumblebee, Arcee, and/or Optimus, your goal being to protect several Dark Energon mines from the Decepticons. There is a maximum of 25 allowed Decepticon escapes on Standard modes, but no tolerance of escapes is given in No Escape Mode. In addition to the Vehicons that comprise the bulk of enemy units, there are three bosses: Soundwave, Starscream, & Megatron. Each of them show up to pester you by either temporarilly disabling or powering down your turrets, or destroying them upright. Though these enemy units can be defeated and forced to retreat, they return throughout a level once more at full health. The first Autobot to play as is Bumblebee. The second is Arcee, and in the fourth leve, Bumblebee aids Arcee and the player can control both Autobots. Levels 5 and 6 is when Optimus Prime is introduced, and Megatron is the enemy boss. Arcee returns for the sixth level as well.

The player destroys Vehicons either by attacking them directly with the character in their control, or by deploying turrets; stationary units with ranged attacks. Each Autobot has access to three kinds of turrets, the basic "Cannon Turrets," and two other turrets unique to that character. Turrets require Energon to summon, a currency that replenishes itself whenever an enemy is destroyed. Occasionally Ratchet will also send some Energon, in order to help with a particularly difficult wave. Each character also has a set of skills available to them to aid them in their missions, though these need to recharge after each use, using an independent recharge countdown for each skill. As with each character's access to different turrets, each character has access to a basic ability that deploys missiles to strike down several enemies at once, and other unique abilities to that character. Every character has access to the "Field Generator" skill in their vehicle modes, which increases nearby turrets' range and firepower for a short amount of time. The characters also travel faster in their vehicle modes, but cannot summon turrets in this mode.
