- Fight! Super Robot Lifeform TransformersZaur is a mini-cassette that transforms into what appears to be a dark blue (nearly black)Apatosaurus. He has a good range of articulation with several points of movement at the neck and tail, as well as hip joints. Two silver "Cannon Guns" plug into the faux cassette tape holes near his hind legs. In tape mode, he fits into the chest compartment of the originalBlasterorSoundwavetoys (and theirretooledreincarnations).
- Zaur combines withDileto form the legs ofLegout. His cannons become hip-mounted weapons in this form.
- As one of the vanishingly few toys unique to theHeadmasterstoyline and something of a tail-ender within the line, Zaur and the other three "dino-cassettes" command ridiculous sums on the secondary market. Their actualrarityis questionable, though; similar "exclusive holy grails"Stepper,Artfire,Twincast, andSoundblasterwere uncommon, but not vanishingly rare, yet still commanded top dollar due to overseas perception (until they got reissued, at any rate). After some decades of this, their high price status may at last change after their rerelease in theStudio Seriesline—except, perhaps, forMISBcollectors.
- Zaur was recreated and reissued asStudio SeriesUruazandZauru.
Studio Series
- Predating the2019Mini-Cassettereissues in theVintage G1toyline,Hasbrorecreated theW Cassettebotmolds that formLegoutand sold them separately in theStudio Seriestoyline inside two multipacks advertising theBumblebeefilm. While these were marketed as a part of thelive-action film series, they are quite clearly intended to be reissues of the original toys and were presumably packed into these sets as the future of theVintage G1line at the time was uncertain.
Notes
- Zauru(ザウル) was a previously standard transliteration for "-saur", obscuring the intention of Zaur's name. "Dile"being a modification of" reptile "implies" Zaur "is the better match rather than" Saur ".
- Zaur's ability to become stronger in water is a reference to the erroneous idea that sauropod dinosaurs were semi-aquatic.
