Prysmos was once an organic world where magic had recently overtaken technology, following the great "Trinary Re-Alignment;" following the planet's destruction, however, only a handful of survivors escaped,Schismaticincluding the technophobic sorcererMerklynn.First Strike #6Merklynn disguised himself as "Garrison Kreiger,"and travelled toEarth,living a human existence until crossing paths with the magical artifact known as theTalisman,Strange Visitorsand devising a way to use its power to transform Cybertron into a new copy of Prysmos.First Strike #6
Ultimately, Krieger would wind up manipulatingJoe Coltoninto launching a genocidal attack on Cybertron;First Strike #0his initial plan to double-cross his catspaw was foiled, however, and Merklynn wound up activating the Talisman prematurely, using its power to enchant Cybertron'senergonreserves and remaking a portion of Cybertron's core into the city of "New Prysmos." Cybertron was left weakened by the attack,First Strike #6and the Transformers found that they were unable to process the magically-contaminated energon, forcing the planet to rely onEarth's supplies ofOre-13as a result.The Dead Come Home, Part 1Approximately ten thousandPrysmosianrefugees came to inhabit the city over the coming weeks, including representatives of both theDarkling LordsandSpectral Knights,based out of theMonastery of the Darkling Lordsand theRedoubt,respectively. The Cybertronians established a heavily defended checkpoint to restrict access in and out of the city; for his crimes against Cybertron, the Prysmosians were forced to arrest Merklynn and keep him under constant Transformer surveillance.Schismatic
In her opening speech during Cybertron's first electoral debate, candidateWindbladepledged to protect the people from "the creatures" living underground.The Chosen OneAt some point after winning the election, theCouncil of Worldsattempted to open a dialogue with the citizens of New Prysmos, but diplomatic efforts went nowhere until afterShockwave'sMaximalattack, when Windblade sent Kup andIronhideto negotiate with the aliens whileWheeljackandBreakdownexamined the Talisman that had done this. When a surge of Talisman energy disintegrated Breakdown's arm, however, Wheeljack realized the quarantine shield they'd established around the city was ineffective.Schismatic
Following the death of Kup, the Visionaries within the city split into two camps:Leoric'sSpectral Knightssought to coexist peacefully with the Cybertronians, whileVirulina'sDarkling Lordsaimed to take the planet by force. The brief power struggle saw the Darkling Lords destroy the quarantine shield, take the Cybertronian security guardWaspinatorprisoner, and oust Leoric's loyalists entirely, with Virulina being crowned the new chancellor of the city.Cybertron No MoreThose Spectral Knights who chose to stay behind defected to the Darkling Lords atCryotek's urging.
From their new base of operations inIacon,Leoric taskedArzon,Mortdred,andWitterquickwith a stealth mission into New Prysmos so as to assassinate Virulina before she could consolidate her power. They failed to do so, and were taken prisoner by Virulina.Desperate MeasuresRealizing that he had to confront Virulina himself to set things right, Leoric returned to New PrysmosGood Menand swayed Cryotek and the other defectors back to the Spectral Knight cause before taking on Virulina. Though both Virulina and Leoric were then betrayed by Merklynn, who sought to do away with the both of them to place the pliableArzonon the throne, a burst of healing energy—a combination of Cybertronain technology, Talisman magic, andGaladria's healing spell—tore through the city.
When Leoric awoke a week later, he discovered that New Prysmos had undergone a drastic metamorphosis: the city had teleported itself to the surface of Cybertron, and terraformed the surrounding area into a recreation of Prysmos's biosphere. With Virulina defeated and Merklynn imprisoned once more, Leoric and Arzon made peace and agreed to work together to keep the peace in their new city.The CurtainThis happy ending was short-lived, however: withUnicronpreparing to attack Cybertron, Windblade and Ironhide travelled to New Prysmos to seek the Visionaries' help, and Leoric agreed to harness the Talisman's power to teleport everyone on Cybertron to safety. New Prysmos was then destroyed when Unicron consumed the planet.Road's End
Notes
- The nature of the shield around New Prysmos is contradictory. WhileFirst Strikedepicts that it was set up by Merklynn to keep Cybertronians out,Transformers vs. Visionariesdescribes it as a Cybertronian creation to keep Prysmosians in. It's also not entirely clear how the Prysmosians got in there in the first place.
