Alterenergy is an internationally operating company that was founded prior to 2020 to provide the population of Earth with an alternative source of energy to the planet's dwindling fossil fuel reserves, namely 01 Source — or energon as the Transformers call it. Its success in tracking down the hard to find element comes from the employment of Chad Jones, the son of Alterenergy scientist Dr. Brian Jones, who has the ability to detect Energon.

Known employees include:

The Terrorcons attacked Alterenergy's exploratory excavation/drilling operation site located in Western Australia. As fate would have it, Kicker was stationed there at that time. He tried to flee the area on his bike, but was pursued by Battle Ravage to a camp of environmentalist-protesters nearby, where the rough terrain there caused him to fall off his bike. Seeing he wasn't getting up, one of the protesters, Alexis, took the risk of saving him by shooting a flare in the Transformer's face and escaping with the boy on his bike.

Meanwhile, the attack was monitored by several other divisions of the company. From within Alterenergy Mobile Command, Rad and Dr. Brian Jones observed and discussed the events and actions to be taken with Carlos over at Comsat Alpha. Much to the doctor's panicking, they couldn't track any identifiable lifesigns on Kicker, although to Carlos and Rad, the images of Decepticons back on Earth were not less interesting. After the Australian Air Force was taken out by the Terrorcons, Rad decided to head into the danger zone himself to retrieve Kicker. What Lies Beneath He came too late to keep him (and Alexis) out of the Terrorcons' claws, What Lies Beneath, Part Two but right on time to hear Scorponok exposit that Kicker had a unique physiology that made him a walking Energon detector. Finally understanding what had made Alterenergy so successful, Carlos noted Rad he had been sending an emergency signal into space in hopes the Autobots would come to their aid. Rad wryly answered they weren't coming, and proceeded on his own, only to have Carlos inform him of the Autobots' arrival a little while later. With the Terrorcons off to fight their enemies on better grounds, Rad approached Alexis as neither he nor Carlos saw any Terrorcon left to guard her. It turned out Battle Ravage was lying in wait cloaked, and the two humans had to run for their lives before they could worry about Kicker's. To distract Battle Ravage, Rad instructed Carlos to autopilot the skimmer on which he had arrived into one of the Terrorcons' Energon harvest machines. The subsequent explosion not only allowed him and Alexis to escape, but also called back the Terrorcons before they could deal out the finishing blows to the Autobots. What Lies Beneath, Part Three

After the series of distractions that had plagued their mission, the Terrorcons prioritized and attacked Alterenergy Mobile Command to force cooperation out of Kicker, who agreed in order to save his father. When the Terrorcons left to find Energon, the people of Alterenergy and the Autobots met up. As a part of the Autobot forces went to confront the Terrorcons, another part stayed with Dr. Jones to develop a suit for Kicker to help him stand on his own now that he had become an object of interest in the Transformer conflict. When joining the battle later, three of the Autobots managed to sneak past, get to and free Kicker and hand him the suit. Kicker told them they had to get away quickly, because the Energon he had the Terrorcons tap wasn't exactly pure and would blow up any second, which it soon did. The Terrorcons were retrieved from the battlefield after another failure, and Kicker was reunited with Alexis and Rad. What Lies Beneath, Part Four

In reaction to these events, Kicker was employed to help the Autobots on their search for Energon, directing them to such places as Yukon Omni-Potent and the Black Sea. At the latter location, Kicker volunteered to dive for the Energon well to implant the drill module and asked Signal Flare to provide him with an air bubble to do so. But while Kicker was underwater, the Omnicons came under attack by the Decepticons and the air bubble could no longer be maintained, allowing the Decepticons to easily abduct the unconscious boy. Meanwhile, Rad and Alexis had travelled to Los Angeles together, where Rad intended to see Alexis off before heading for Alterenergy West Coast in El Segundo. Multiplicity Multiplicity, Pt. 2 However, a Terrorcon attack on the city prevented Alexis from leaving. When the Autobots arrived to fight off the Terrorcons, Rad observed that they were expending Energon rapidly and would not hold out long. Taking Alexis with him, Rad headed for and contacted Alterenergy West Coast, where Carlos had been relocated to as well. Briefing each other on the situation, Rad requested Carlos to prepare E.V.A., a plane designed to collect and transport Energon vapor. Multiplicity, Pt. 3 Rad left Alexis with Carlos to attempt to fly E.V.A. through hostile skies in order to get the Energon to the Autobots. Despite the odds, he succeeded, bringing the Autobots the boost they needed to win the battle.

Back over at the Black Sea, the Decepticon trio that had been tasked with obtaining Kicker found out the hard way they shouldn't have done that near an Energon well. Kicker, awake and heavily powered up by the presence of Energon, revived the beaten Omnicons in a snap, thereby forcing the Decepticons to retreat. Multiplicity, Pt. 4

Energon ceased publication before the story could conclude. The following would have taken place in unpublished issues.
