Brian Jones
From Transformers Wiki
This subject of this article goes by multiple names that apply to other articles as well. See Brian (disambiguation), Jones (disambiguation). |
- Brian Jones is an Autobot-allied human from the Energon portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Doctor Brian Jones is humanity's foremost expert on Energon. He has a brilliant mind and his research may solve the energy crisis facing not only Earth, but Cybertron as well.
Dr. Jones and his wife, Miranda Jones, are the parents of Kicker and Sally Jones. He laughs at inappropriate times. Actually, he has some other inappropriate personal quirks to boot. He sometimes views Kicker as more of a tool than as his son, but shows some concern for him at important times. Dr. Jones is exceedingly eccentric.
It is unknown if Doctor Jones ever met Short Round or Willie Scott.

An MIT graduate, Dr. Jones earned a degree in physical engineering. His pupil at this time was the young Rad White, who would later reveal the Transformers to Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones would eventually travel to Cybertron with Rad, Alexis and Carlos Team Optimus Prime Cybertron City and establish a sort of private-sector energon research on Earth, in the form of hidden cities built on Cybertronian technology. Thanks to Alexis' intervention, this program would become loosely sanctioned by the Earth Federation, which was interested in exploring energon's usefulness to humanity but cautious in assimilating the Transformers into human affairs. This program would be kept from the public for many years. Cybertron City
A large factor in Doctor Jones' contribution to energon research came from his son, Kicker, who developed energon-sensing abilities after a trip to Cybertron and meeting Primus. Dr. Jones had rather ambiguous morals with regards to how he treated his son. At times, Jones used Kicker more like a tool, innocently oblivious to Kicker's developmental needs. When Dr. Jones discovered Kicker's gift, he dragged his young son from world to world, wherever he expected to find energon deposits. Coupled with his traumatic trip to Cybertron, Kicker came to resent his father, though the elder Jones did upon occasion show concern and love for his son. The New Cybertron City The Legend of Rodimus
Doctor Jones was stationed on Cybertron with Rad when the Terrorcon invasion of Earth and its mining colonies began. Fearing for his son's safety, he sent a special suit of armor for his son to Earth with Optimus Prime. Prime gave Kicker the armor to protect him from the Terrorcons when they threatened Ocean City and other energon outposts. Cybertron City From his post on Cybertron, he later alerted Optimus Prime that Mars City was not completely drained of energon, and that the Terrorcons might strike at it again in light of its weakened defenses. His assessment turned out to be accurate. Megatron's Sword Next, he spruced up the Prime Force for Optimus after they took a beating in battle against Scorponok. He also conceived of pre-constructed energon mining facilities, building one on Cybertron and then readying it for transport through the Space Bridge to Earth once a new vein of energon was discovered. Doctor Jones used this idea for offensive purposes when Kicker discovered some more energon in the frozen north. Once a Space Bridge beacon was dropped into the ice, the Autobots evacuated the area and Doctor Jones dropped the entire "Blizzard City" complex right on top of the Terrorcons as they went for the energon. The New Cybertron City
Dr. Jones returned to Earth with a new plan to protect the planet and its remaining energon deposits: the energon towers, a series of defensive spires feeding off energon to generate a powerful, all-encompassing energon field grid. Battle of the Asteroid Belt Back in Ocean City, Doctor Jones did his best to reconcile with Kicker, but his efforts failed from the start when he insisted on calling his son "Junior". Despite the personal troubles, Doctor Jones got the energon tower activated in record time, and unveiled it during a Decepticon attack. The tower let out a specially targetable shockwave, completely harmless to Autobots and Omnicons, but it destroyed Terrorcons and weakened Decepticons, driving them off completely. Energon Tower
As energon towers arrived at the other remaining mining cities on Earth, Doctor Jones declared the need to find more energon deposits, otherwise they wouldn't have enough to bring all the towers online once they were secured. He asked Kicker to go into the mines underneath Blizzard City and check for more energon. He even said Kicker could be "team leader", hoping that would make his son more excited about the prospect. The Legend of Rodimus
When Kicker confronted Demolishor and the Terrorcons on the moon, Doctor Jones watched his son from Earth, confident that Kicker knew what he was doing. When the Omnicons of Lunar City were discovered alive and well beneath the surface, Doctor Jones used Lunar City as a foundation to launch another energon tower from Cybertron, and used it to unleash another shockwave that drove off the Decepticons and Terrorcons. Kicker Beware! As the Earth Federation prepared to bring the last of the energon towers of Earth online and establish a world-wide protective grid, they found themselves racing the clock as Megatron launched a trio of artificial comets at Earth. These comets were large enough to destroy all life on the planet if the energon grid wasn't prepared in time. When Desert City failed to activate properly, Doctor Jones sent Kicker and Misha to repair the damage. Desert City came online just in time to repel the comets. Energon Grid Doctor Jones cackled like a megalomaniac at having secured Earth's safety, and Kicker once again wished his dad would tone it down some, considering they barely prevented a doomsday strike on the entire planet. Rodimus Friend or Foe?
Doctor Jones' next venture is a warp-capable ship he named the Miranda II, with its own collapsable defense field based on energon tower technology. He provided this ship to Prime and his team as they set out into the galaxy to find Unicron. Go for Unicron!
When Doctor Jones heard the Kicker had gone after Alpha Q by himself, he was extremely concerned. Miranda gently reminded him of how he hadn't always put Kicker's wellbeing first in the past, and told Dr. Jones to trust his son to stay safe. Alpha Q: Identity When Kicker contacted Dr. Jones requesting all of Earth's energon to defend Cybertron from Unicron, Jones was reluctant to leave Earth so defenseless. Still, he trusted his son's judgment and agreed to provide the energon. Unicron Unleashed Alexis nearly stepped in to stop Dr. Jones from leaving Earth defenseless, but he ultimately convinced her that it was necessary to help Optimus and Cybertron, even if Earth was at risk. The combined energon of Earth was then transmitted through the Space Bridge. Open Fire!
Later, Doctor Jones and his family reminisced about interesting things other people had done. He was then named a scientific consultant for the world's new energon supply as recognition for his actions of stealing Earth's previous energon supply and giving it to aliens. Team Optimus Prime The Joneses lost contact with Kicker for a time on the other side of a space rift, but he eventually contacted home and let them know he was alright. ("Hi, mom & dad. I'm okay. Send money energon towers.") Bulkhead
After spending a good deal of time on Earth, Dr. Jones returned to Cybertron with his family and got in touch with Kicker, proving once again that a mere 30 second message was enough to make his son's eye twitch involuntarily. Later, with the help of Primus, Dr. Jones located a hidden cavern in Cybertron containing the legendary guardian of the energon, Omega Supreme. Crash Course Dr. Jones contacted Optimus Prime to alert him that Omega Supreme was on his way to support the Autobots, and also agreed to send Prime a fleet of energon towers for their mission against Unicron. Omega Supreme
As the war against Unicron raged, Dr. Jones pondered the fate of his son with his family on Cybertron. Rad White alerted him that Primus was preparing to send all the energon from Cybertron's core to Optimus Prime for his fight with Unicron. Dr. Jones and Rad debated the necessity of this move, as it would leave Cybertron virtually defenseless, until they realized the discussion was academic: Primus does what Primus wants. Optimus Supreme
Doctor Jones and his family were celebrating the defeat of Unicron on Cybertron with as much "sparkling grape juice" as the doctor could knock back. Tipsy as he was, Jones wasn't too concerned by Rad's report that Primus had powered down, leaving the planet virtually without energon to run the defensive towers. After all, Megatron was gone, right? When Megatron unexpectedly returned (oops), Doctor Jones tried to get his family to safety aboard the shuttle to Earth, but Sally refused to leave her father behind. The point became moot when Cruellock drones destroyed the space port, and their ride. Ambition
Unable to get to safety, Dr. Jones and his family hid inside the massive air conditioning ducts when Six Shot and Demolishor assumed control of the Autobot command center. Wishes Along with Rad White, they eked out an existence hiding from Terrorcons in the passageways of Cybertron too small for the Decepticons to reach. Galvatron!
Dr. Jones and Rad decided their best hope was to make contact with Primus at the core of Cybertron, and set off to awaken him. Their initial plan, to take the elevator, was diabolically foiled by the fact that the elevator wasn't working. Undeterred, the heroes decided to drop down the elevator shaft to Primus after a marauding Cruellock trapped them inside the shaft anyway. Break Through They eventually stumbled into the same hole to the core that Kicker fell into years earlier, and found Primus still operating in sleep mode. The Decepticons came across the core at the same time, and Dr. Jones went with Demolishor and Snow Cat to search for Super Energon, and distract them from Primus. The Omega Train He travelled with them down to the Super Energon pool. The Decepticons were too mesmerized by the Super Energon Temple to continue keeping a close eye on Dr. Jones then, and he took the opportunity to flee his captors. Decepticon Army
Dr. Jones was found wandering the tunnels by Ironhide. He returned to the core chamber and was reunited with his family as the Omnicons restored Primus with energon stars. Ironhide Team Dr. Jones and Kicker attempted several ways to stop Cybertron's progression through space, turning off the energon gas and destroying the towers, but it was ultimately Primus who cleansed the planet of gas and used that accumulated power to enlarge Optimus Supreme to arrest Cybertron's motion. Formidable
After Sally snuck off to reclaim the Autobots' command center, she radioed the Primus chamber to let them know of her success. Dr. Jones planned to accompany Kicker and a team of Omnicons to the Super Energon pool, but Kicker insisted he go meet up with Sally instead. He said rather pointedly that a child in danger needs their father, and Doctor Jones needed to be more aware of that. Dr. Jones's team managed to reach Sally before any harm befell her, and the Autobots took control of the Decepticons' headquarters. When reunited with his daughter, Dr. Jones was disappointed to find she was more excited over seeing Rad then himself. He made sure the young man wasn't getting any funny ideas, then had the Autobots take his wife and daughter back to Ocean City, and out of harm's way. Galvatron Terror
Back in control of the command center, Dr. Jones monitored Kicker's efforts to cut Galvatron off from the Super Energon pool. Destructive Power After his son succeeded, Galvatron fled out into space. Doctor Jones and the Omnicons used the remaining Super Energon as a power booster for their energon stars, bringing Primus fully back on line for the first time since Unicron was destroyed over Blizzard Planet. Spark Dr. Jones could only stand by and watch as Primus drew in the rest of the Super Energon as the nucleus for a new sun, transporting it to Alpha Q's planets to revitalize them. The Sun
Energon comic
Dr. Jones was a special consultant for Alterenergy, an alternative fuel company located in Western Australia. When Terrorcons raided Earth in search of Energon, they targeted his son Kicker, who could detect Energon with his mind. He sent one of his employees, Rad, to rescue him. What Lies Beneath
However, Kicker was instead scooped up by one of the protesters outside the Alterenergy mobile command center. Rad then fumbled the rescue and Kicker was kidnapped by the Terrorcons. After the Autobots arrived, Dr. Jones had them bring Kicker a battle suit to wear so that he would be protected. What Lies Beneath, Part Four
At Alterenergy, Doctor Jones oversaw his son's training exercises, testing his new powers. He and Rad were worried that Kicker wasn't taking his role in the Energon Battles seriously. Doomsday Redux!
