When the members of the Air Defense Team had escaped Decepticon Headquarters, they took up residence in the Garbage Disposal District. Not only would the Decepticons never look for them there, but the layers of metallic junk also shielded them from radar searches. To make the deal even better, not everything in the Garbage Disposal District was just garbage; The trio had been able to make some nifty gadgets and weapons with the materials they had scavenged together. The absolute crown on their work was the discovery of a functional ship, which inspired them to a plan to free the other Mini-Cons and all together leave Cybertron for good.

Shortly before the operation was started, the Air Defense Team found an unconscious Sparkplug near the recently raided Mini-Con village C52 and brought him to the Garbage Disposal District. Showing off their accomplishments so far, they asked him to help them. Sparkplug agreed. Armada #2
