Kotobukiya
From Transformers Wiki
Kotobukiya is a Japanese retailer and manufacturer of plastic model kits. They first began in 1947 as a single toy store in Tokyo before becoming a proper company in 1953 as Toya, later renamed Kotobukiya in 1981. They are known for such products as their Frame Arms line, featuring mech designs built around a single posable "frame"; their D-Style line, which features super-deformed mecha; and the Bishoujo Series, a line of PVC statues which reimagines various licensed characters as cute anime girls based on the art of Shunya Yamashita. The company has worked with several licensed IPs over the years, including Avengers, Batman, Metal Gear, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Star Wars, Street Fighter, and even a few Hasbro properties like G.I. Joe and My Little Pony.
In 2015, Kotobukiya released a range of G1 Transformers characters in their D-Style line. In 2022, it was announced that Transformers characters would be joining their Bishoujo Series roster, with statues of several characters released through 2023.
Notes
- Like TakaraTomy's Arms Micron kits, all of Kotobukiya's model kits were made in China.
