Wait... that's not Dull Surprise... that's... Mild Smugness!!

Matilda is the hippy, good-vibes, let's-all-just-calm-down-a-bit mother figure of the Flock. Naturally, she has her lack-of-hands full on that score. She tries to keep the rest of the birds calm and friendly, even cooking meals for everyone... though she's not very good at that, but at least everyone else appreciates her enough to try and hide their attempts to throw whatever she's made away. Her upbeat attitude blends well with the chipper Autobots Nautica and Strongarm, leading to a pretty successful fusion of chicken and Camien!

As Nautica

Yes, two sets of headphones at once. Everyone will wear these in the future.
  • Squad: Femme Fatale
  • Mission Type: Investigator
  • Unlock Type: New Area (Cave, 750 Bat Pigs), Challenge Event (10000 Tokens)

As the first new map-unlock character in three years, Nautica requires some extra work to unlock (as long-term players would have a huge level and tons of Pig points, the nominal method of map unlocks). First the player must collect 10000 units of Plasma, which is found in Daily Rewards, Daily Quests, Token Exchange, and Crates, to open up the new cave island area where Nautica is being held. Then you have to collect 750 Bat Pigs, which are found in Daily Rewards, Cave levels, and Daily Quests, to open up her intro level. And if that sounds too hard for you, she’s also available in gold crates or the token exchange in certain events.

Her weapon launches a quick succession of three water-bombs in a high arc which explode with considerable splash damage, then drop two more smaller bombs that fall in opposite directions. Properly powered up, she can obliterate block towers with ease, especially if you strike the tops of the towers to maximize the following downward spread. These initial bombs also have incredible push, sending anything they hit but don't destroy flying into the distance and damaging them over time.

Unfortunately, she's not very effective against more foes like Sharktihogs or Walking Mortar Towers, and just crap at tackling Boss Pig and Unicron Pig. Speed-wise, she runs at a medium-fast clip, and is pretty speedy in hoversub mode.

  • Unlock Type: Challenge Event Prize (10000 Tokens)

Energon Nautica's attacks are stunningly similar to her non-Energized self, with roughly the same advantages and disadvantages, only with some extra power thanks to her Energon infusion. Her weapon has a slight acid effect, slowly draining health of any target hit but not destroyed, but it's easily the weakest acid attack in the game. Like all Energon variants, she takes extra damage from enemy attacks, but can heal by absorbing energon cubes from de-cyberformed scenery, at roughly half a heart per cube.

Energon Nautica was first available in the "Naughty Nautica" Challenge Event in November, a typical six-day event (which happened to be right after the three-year anniversary event).

Strongarm's boundless enthusiasm mixes with Matilda's upbeat attitude distressingly well.
Her weapon fires lobbed electric jolts that packs serious punch even at low levels, popping pigs easily, with a short-range explosive burst effective against weak blocks, and an EMP effect to boot. But bizarrely it doesn't follow a simple arc like many others' weapons. Instead it alternates between about 45 degrees right and left of center, but always homing in on the intended target.

Notes

  • Matilda is the last member of the original Flock to be added to the game.
  • Presumably due to Extient's minimal development budget the fact she's based on Windblade (see below), Matilda uses all of Silver's voice samples, despite having her own unique voice in other games. On top of that, the new Matilda heads lack any form of facial animation whatsoever, not even having a simple blink. Which looks really weird next to tremendously expressive characters like Moustache Pig.
    • Thankfully the 2.0 update to the game allows Matilda to have some expression in the eyes.
  • Nautica uses the body of Windblade, with a new head and wings based on Titans Return Nautica. Strongarm, meanwhile, is a new-head recolor of Barricade.
  • Ana Sani voices Matilda in Angry Birds: Summer Madness.
