Olin Zarak
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Zarak" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Zarak (disambiguation). |
- Olin Zarak is a Nebulan from the Generation 1 continuity family.
You know how it goes. You toil your whole life to make a name for yourself, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and subjugate the citizens of your planet under the rule of a mighty Hive. You hope you can pass that legacy on to your kids, right? That they'll live up to your example? Make you proud? That's what Mo Zarak thought. But no, his son Olin Zarak ran off to become a pirate. Well, at least it wasn't art school. That crap's expensive.
Sometimes he is known as Olin Witwicky.

Wings Universe
Olin was son to Lord Mo Zarak, born to a mother who was kept separate from Olin as he was raised in a "sterile" environment until he matured. Mo desired to keep his son under his thumb, refusing to allow him the sort of free will Olin's half-sister Llyra had that led her away from her father. Olin was cast aside when the Decepticons arrived on Nebulos, but, when Mo expired, Olin inherited Scorponok. He eventually joined the Star Seekers, acting as their muscle. Worried that he suffered mental instability due to Scorponok still being attuned to his father’s brainwaves rather than his own, Olin planned to have Dr. Vez recalibrate the machine… but not until he could be sure he could fully trust the doctor.
During the Star Seekers’ attack on Ventax II, Olin was tasked with procuring a large energy production device from a building. After he had successfully retrieved it, the Star Seekers retreated from the battlefront. The device was used to power the Tidal Wave's transwarp engines, as part of Captain Cannonball's plan to rob Cybertron of its Energon in a future time. Tornado - Decepticon Saboteur
After using advanced transwarp mathematics to travel through time, Cannonball led Olin and the Star Seekers on a raid of the future Autobot outpost Galadria to access its space bridge nexus. Warping into the heart of Unicron's severed head, Cannonball intended to use the planet-eater's systems to drain Cybertron dry of energon. During the raid, Olin discovered the Cybertronian Knight Devcon spying on them, and combined with Scorponok to detain him. As more Cybertronian Knights came to oppose the Star Seekers, Brimstone lent his rail gun mode to Olin/Scorponok to ward them off. During the fight, he was knocked out by Flareup and captured alongside the rest of the crew. Hoist the Flag
Tornado's log indicated that Scorponok, and by extension Olin, escaped capture by the Knights and made it back to the Tidal Wave, but Tornado opined that Scorponok may have taken that opportunity to mutiny. Although Cannonball eventually escaped and was back in control of the Tidal Wave, later logs referred to Scorponok's "former quarters." Tornado - Decepticon Saboteur

Toys
Timelines
- Pirates vs Knights (BotCon 2014 box set)
- Olin Zarak is a retool of the Encore[1] Spike/Fortress Headmaster pilot figure, with a new head-mode face based on Scorponok's U.S. animation model. (He still uses the Spike/Fortress flip-around forehead piece, though.) He transforms from an armored humanoid into a robot head compatible with any classic Headmaster robot body... or the retooled neck-piece to his way-bigger companion Scorponok, who he comes with.
- Scorponok and Olin were only available as part of the BotCon 2014 five-piece "Pirates vs Knights" toy set, along with Cannonball, Ferak & Tornado, Devcon, and Ginrai.
- The original version of this mold was also used to make Grand, Car Robots Plasma, and Robotmasters Master.
Notes
- Olin's identity was only mentioned in the run-up promotion to the convention. In the comic book itself, he's merely referred to as "Zarak" and Scorponok's profile card doesn't mention him at all.
- Ask Vector Prime noted in a jokey answer that Lord Zarak's middle name was sometimes Olin.
