The name or term "Swoop" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Swoop (disambiguation). |
- Swoop is an Autobot Dinobot from the Cyberverse continuity family.
Swoop is the smartest of the Dinobots, perhaps even smarter than Grimlock! She's rarely listened to, though, either because they're not on her level of intellect, or she has trouble expressing herself plainly, or... both. The thrill of technology causes her to ramble with just enough exuberance that she's sometimes hard to follow. But even if she were able to temper her technophilic glee, her peers don't really know much vocabulary past "punch" or "kick real hard." It's rough being Swoop.
Swoop can combine with Bumblebee to form Bumbleswoop or with her fellow Dinobots to form the mighty Volcanicus!

Eons ago, Swoop's home planet received Grimlock's transmission from earth with his dinosaur comrades. Her whole world decided to imitate Grimlock and his friends, and took on dino modes, with Swoop taking the form of a pteranodon. At some point, Swoop and the other Dinobots fell under the leadership of Tiny Arms, but when their planet was attacked by the Immobilizer Gang, Tiny Arms did not survive. Swoop and the other Dinobots swore revenge on The Immobilizer Gang and followed them to Cybertron.
Upon landing on the time-locked planet, the Dinobots attempted to figure out a plan to stop The Immobilizer Gang. Swoop attempted to explain her plan to build a time shield, but the other Dinobots failed to understand it, much to her annoyance. As she was reprimanding them for their lack of understanding, she and the other Dinobots were greeted by a disgruntled Grimlock who believed them to be the ones who froze the planet in time. Grimlock fought with the Dinobots, until Swoop recognised him as the bot that had inspired their dinosaur modes.
After Swoop and the other Dinobots explained the situation to Grimlock, he agreed to team up with them to defeat the Immobilizer Gang, however he refused to let any of them join him in fighting them. When Grimlock appeared to be having difficulty in fighting The Immobilizer Gang, the other Dinobots rushed in to aid him. Unfortunately the Dinobots were forced to retreat in Grimlock's shuttle, a result that Grimlock blamed the other Dinobots for. The ensuing disagreement caused the shuttle to lose control, causing all the Dinobots to be thrown to the back of the ship, along with the Enigma of Combination. This caused the Dinobots to combine into Volcanicus, but this was short lived as the combiner's size broke the shuttle from the inside, causing them to fall to the ground and split back into their components.
The Dinobots pondered over this occurrence and Grimlock suggested that it was somehow caused by the Enigma of Combination, so Swoop consulted the Witwiki database and confirmed his suspicions. They decided to try to combine again and all took hold of the Enigma to form Volcanicus once again. They marvelled at their own might, only to lose balance on their first step and fall over, once again splitting into their components. The Dinobots concluded that with some training they could use their combined form to defeat the Immobilizer Gang.
After learning to walk, Volcanicus began their training on an obstacle course designed by Grimlock. However, Volcanicus' lack of coordination and experience lead to them failing the obstacle course several times until Grimlock decided their endeavour was hopeless. He told the other Dinobots to remain behind while he took care of everything, as they simply weren't ready. Swoop agreed, saying they didn't function well as a team because the rest of them were too lacking in intelligence, but Sludge still believed in the team. He reminded them that they still had "courage and good cheer." Swoop and the other Dinobots began to chant the phrase until Grimlock agreed to try the obstacle course one last time.
Volcanicus gave it their all and succeeded in completing the obstacle course. In their celebration, they discovered that they also could a produce a sword from their back. However, this celebration was short lived as the Dinobots realized that Volcanicus could still easily be stopped by the time blaster. This gave Swoop the opportunity to finally explain her plan to build a time shield, which Grimlock agreed to set in motion. After looting the necessary equipment, the Dinobots then set to work on building the shield to protect them from the Immobilizer Gang's time blaster. Upon its completion, Volcanicus was very excited to have an amazing shield to match their cool sword.
Volcanicus made their way to Immobilizer Gang, charging at them while Soundblaster was using the infinite resonator on Soundwave. They demanded the Immobilizer Gang fix Cybertron, but Soundblaster refused and tried to use the time blaster on them, which their shield succeeded in blocking. The gang attacked, but Volcanicus soon defeated them and trapped them under their own hovercraft trailer. Volcanicus celebrated winning their first battle and did a little dance.
They then separated and the Dinobots demanded that the Immobilizer Gang restore Cybertron, only for the gang's boss, Trypticon to arrive on the scene. He fired the mercenaries for their failure and then attempted to hire the Dinobots instead, telling them that together they would travel the universe and attack helpless planets. The Dinobots refused his offer and combined once again to defend their world from him.
Trypticon blasted Volcanicus with fire, but Volcanicus absorbed the heat and blasted it back at him with their sword. The two then fought, with Trypticon soon landing a hit that caused Volcanicus to separate. The Dinobots quickly recombined and then climbed onto Trypticon's back. The then stabbed him at the base of the neck in Tiny Arms' name, causing him to collapse. Volcanicus did another victory dance, but Trypticon soon woke up and Volcanicus was thrown off him, separating back into the Dinobots who all ran while Trypticon blasted at them.
As Swoop was dodging Trypticon's rockets, she spotted the time blaster in one of the vendor stands. She tried to get to it but was blown off course by one of Trypticon's rockets and landed near Grimlock. She told him about the time blaster and he called the Dinobots back together. They combined and made their way towards it while Trypticon continued to attack them. They grabbed a hold of the time blaster and after some difficulty with the trigger, managed to shoot Trypticon with it, freezing him in time. Volcanicus then separated and Grimlock complimented the other Dinobots and invited them to his after peace treaty signing soirée. The Dinobots then unimmobilized Wheeljack, who, with Swoop's help, then unimmobilized the rest of Cybertron.
Swoop and the other Dinobots then joined in on the peace treaty celebrations, their cheering leading them to combine once more. After a moment of surprise, the other Cybertronians joined in cheering with Volcanicus. The Immobilizers
When Cybertron was threatened with imminent invasion from an unknown enemy, Swoop and the other Dinobots burst into a meeting of the higher-ranked Autobot/Decepticon forces to offer enthusiastic support, but they were a little too annoying and shooed away. Swoop and the other Dinobots continued across the streets of Iaconus to interrupt other Cybertronians with offers of seeing them combine into Volcanicus.
After the unknown enemy revealed itself to be Decepticon supersoldiers, Wheeljack armed Swoop and the other Cybertronians with various gadgets to incapacitate the invaders, but the supersoldiers were able to teleport themselves out of capture. Once the mastermind behind it all was revealed to be Tarn, a Decepticon supersoldier who deceived his way into nabbing the Cortex Helm, Swoop and the Dinobots helped battle the combined army of regular Decepticons and supersoldiers. As Volcanicus, they provided cover to allow their fellow Autobots to escape.
Swoop retreated with the other Autobots to the Monsterbot underworld to regroup. Ultimately, both Autobots and Decepticons turned on Tarn and his supersoldiers, with Swoop combining with her compatriots to form Volcanicus once more, and peace was restored to Cybertron. Swoop was later present at Soundwave's wake following his heroic sacrifice. The Perfect Decepticon

Notes
- As with the other Cyberverse Dinobots, Swoop received concept artwork from Eric Siebenaler which was used in the development of her toy, beginning the translation from Generation 1 Swoop to Cyberverse style. Further alterations were made to her design for the cartoon, during which time it was also decided she would be female and a technician. Given the head, tail weapon, waist, and arm details, it would appear the 2021 Roll & Combine figure is most directly based on this design.
- When Grimlock and other fossils are first exposed by Teletraan-X in "King of the Dinosaurs", there is a mechanical Pteranodon wing present next to the king himself. This is, of course, a reference to Swoop.
