Transformers: Platinum Edition
From Transformers Wiki
Transformers: Platinum Edition is a collector-oriented toyline which ran from 2013 to 2017. It is composed entirely of retools and redecos of existing molds, which are presented in premium packaging. It can be considered a spiritual successor to the Premium Series subline imprint of the 2007 Transformers movie toy line.
In 2014, it got absorbed into the Age of Extinction line, and in the process dropped its own unique packaging designs as well as its own logo in favor of the uniform Age of Extinction packaging design, reducing the title "Platinum Edition" to a small line in neutral text above the toys' names. In 2015, the same formula was continued under the Generations line.
The Platinum Edition branding seems to have been replaced by the Transformers Tribute branding in 2017 for the tenth anniversary of the live-action film series. Subsequently, Generations Selects took up the niche of unusual redecoes from Hasbro.

Notes
- The 2012 Dark of the Moon Ultimate Optimus Prime: Year of the Dragon Edition presaged the coming of the annual Platinum Edition New Years releases, but fits with them thematically.
- The Generations Shattered Glass Optimus Prime redeco of Masterpiece MP-10 Convoy/Optimus Prime, released through Hasbro's Asian division in 2016, sports the same packaging design as the 2015-2016 Generations-branded Platinum Edition releases (with several design elements otherwise unique to Platinum packaging from that era), but doesn't feature a "Platinum Edition" branding.
