- Cyclonus is aDecepticonfrom theGeneration 1continuity family.
Among the Decepticons, finding a genuinely loyal and competentsecond-in-commandis a nearimpossibility.Cyclonusis the exception to that rule. Created byUnicron,Cyclonus is a being whose loyalty toGalvatronand the Decepticon cause is so intense as to exclude most other emotions and interests from his mind. He is dedicated to destruction in his leader's name.
He also has brains to back up that dedication, power to enforce Galvatron's will, and the initiative to form plans and get them done. Cyclonus could easily rule the Decepticons himself if he so desired, either as a power behind the throne or directly overthrowing his psychotic master. His responses to any suggestions that he do so? "All hail Galvatron!"
It's really amazing that he's so loyal, when one considers that he alternates withUltra Magnusas Galvatron's personal punching bag.

Generation 1 cartoon continuity
Created in2005from the remains of a battle damaged Decepticon, Cyclonus instantly becameGalvatron's loyal second-in-command. When his leader became brain-damaged in2006,Cyclonus continued to serve him faithfully, save for a brief attempt to admit him to a sanitarium planet for counseling. Cyclonus later journeyed to the planetNebulosand, allying himself with theHive,became aTargetmaster.
In a splinter timeline, Cyclonus did not become a Targetmaster, and in2011,found himself falling from Galvatron's good graces in the wake of the advent of theHeadmasters.Following Galvatron's demise, Cyclonus mourned his fallen leader, only to become possessed by the will ofGalvatron II,an alternate universe incarnation of his former master. Following a battle with Unicron, Cyclonus was purged of Galvatron II's spirit and resolved to stop worshipping Galvatron and instead become as powerful as him.

Tasked with tracking down the AutobotMatrix of Leadershipby their dark master, Galvatron, Cyclonus, andScourgefirst stopped byCybertronso that Galvatron could eliminateStarscreamand secure his position as leader of the Decepticons. There, the trio witnessed Unicron consume Cybertron's moons, which enraged Galvatron until Unicron tortured him back into servitude. On their master's orders, the Decepticons then headed forEarthand attackedUltra Magnus's Autobots as they were attempting to make their way off-planet. The Autobots' trickery led the Decepticons into believing that they successfully destroyed their opponent, while in reality they only managed to detonate an empty portion of Ultra Magnus's starship.Judgment Day!Following this, Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourgetraveled back in timeto1986as part of a plan to free themselves from Unicron's control by constructing a massive cannon that would destroy him upon their return to the future. Back in his own time,Cyclonus served once more as Galvatron's personal transport when he headed to theplanet of Junkto snatch the Matrix away from Ultra Magnus. Though Galvatron was unable to use the Autobot bauble's power against Unicron, the Decepticons were freed from Unicron's control when his destruction was dealt out at the hands ofRodimus Prime.The Final Battle!After this, Galvatron transported himself back in time to1987,leaving Cyclonus and Scourge in the future, underShockwave's command. The duo were attacked by the freelance peace-keeping agent,Death's Head,who was seeking the bounty on Galvatron’s head, and Cyclonus revealed Galvatron’s whereabouts to him.Wanted: Galvatron — Dead or Alive!Later, Shockwave hired Death’s Head to kill Rodimus Prime, but Cyclonus and Scourge interfered with the job as they sought to kill Rodimus first, in order to reclaim their lost standing amongst the Decepticons.HeadhuntThis did not please Death’s Head, and consequently, he willingly accepted a contract from Rodimus to hunt down Cyclonus and Scourge, eventually tracking them down to the planet of Junk as2008dawned. Before he could finish the job, however, all three of them fell under the mind-controlling influence of Unicron, whose disembodied head had survived the destruction of his body and had landed on the planet, where he was having the native Junkions construct a new body for him.
Under Unicron's control, Cyclonus and Scourge killed Shockwave and became Decepticon leaders, reigniting the stalemated Cybertronian war to a furious degree to cover Unicron's actions. Death's Head, however, was able to fight the mind control and work with the Autobots long enough to stop the chaos-bringer's plan. As explosions destroyed Unicron, Death's Head tackled Cyclonus and Scourge, pushing them through atime portalUnicron had built, promising to kill them another time. Cyclonus and Scourge traveled with Scorponok and several other Decepticons to the peaceful planetNebulosin pursuit ofFortress Maximus's Autobots.Broken Glass!After Scorponok and theTerrorconswere defeated by the new AutobotTargetmasters,the NebulanVorathattempted to duplicate the technology on the Decepticons. Cyclonus was partnered withNightstick,a Nebulan recruit who had been bio-mechanically engineered to be able to transform into his weapon. Cyclonus was soon presented with an opportunity to test his new Targetmaster abilities when some Autobot Headmaster prisoners escaped. The fury of the battle destroyed the city ofKoraja,culminating in Fortress Maximus knocking down Cyclonus and the other Decepticon Targetmasters with part of a beloved fountain.Brothers in Armor!!
At some point afterwards, Cyclonus and the other Decepticon Targetmasters lay in ambush for the AutobotHeadmastersat theFortress of Despairwhere they had the Autobot Targetmasters held captive. However, once Scorponok had abductedHighbrowto study the Headmaster process further the remaining Headmasters were able to free their Targetmaster comrades and turn the tables on the Decepticons.Worlds Apart!
Ultimately, Cyclonus and Scorponok's Decepticons followed the Autobots off Nebulos to Earth.Brothers in Armor!!
Having met with failure again, Cyclonus and Scourge decided to cut their losses and team up with Shockwave's present-day Earth-based Decepticon forces.
Unfortunately, Cyclonus accidentally let slip that they would kill Shockwave in the future. Naturally wanting to ensure his continued existence, Shockwave unleashed a brainwashedMegatron cloneupon the two. Seized by the clone, Cyclonus’s Targetmaster partner, Nightstick, was crushed, and as Cyclonus begged Scourge for help, his companion fled to save his own life and Cyclonus’s head was torn from his body, killing him outright.Dry Run!
Cyclonus and Scourge’s displacement into the past had circumvented the normalmass-replacementmethod used by time travel, and had hence unbalanced the space-time continuum, causing ariftto appear in the fabric of space and time. Cyclonus's death, twenty years before he was even created, proved to be the final straw, accelerating the rift, which soon threatened to consume Earth and Cybertron. Realizing that the only way to stop it was to return himself, Galvatron and Cyclonus to their original time, Scourge attempted to recover Cyclonus’s body from Shockwave, only to be attacked by the deranged Decepticon, who had lost his mind due to the illogical nature of the situation, and had strung Cyclonus’s remains up like a twisted trophy.Ravage,however, was able to bring Shockwave back to sanity enough for him to deposit Cyclonus’s remains after Galvatron and Scourge, and then seal it with an x-ray blast.Time WarsThese events were observed by thetime travellingDicet Alpha-zero.The Quest!
The Big Broadcast of 2006
In an alternate future of 2006, Cyclonus was on the Decepticon planetChaarwhenAstrotrainarrived and gave a report toGalvatronabout theJunkionsbeing hypnotized by a television. Galvatron angrily declared he didn't care anything about the news. Cyclonus pleaded with him to reconsider how the information could be used against the Autobots, but Galvatron would not change his mind. On his own initiative, Cyclonus tookScourgealong to investigate and discovered theQuintessonswere involved.
Back on Chaar, a hypnotized Galvatron suddenly took off without telling Cyclonus where he was going, so Cyclonus and Scourge followed him toJunkion.They were soon met there by a group of Autobots where they engaged them in battle. When the Autobots succeeded in disrupting the Quintessons' hypnosis signal, the Junkions added their strength to the Autobots', which caused Galvatron to retreat so fast he nearly left Cyclonus behind. Rhythms of Darkness!
Another alternate version of Cyclonus inhabited an alternate future world. Cyclonus, along with Scourge, had pursued Rodimus Prime and his crew to Junkion. After hisshuttlehad been destroyed and his crew deactivated, Rodimus defiantly stood against the attacking Decepticons, but a sudden distraction gave Cyclonus and Scourge the opening they needed to shoot theMatrixaway from him,
By2009,Cybertron had been destroyed andGalvatronruled the American continents on Earth. To eliminate the Decepticons themselves, thegovernments of the remaining free nationsplanned to launchnuclear weaponstowards theDecepticon Powerbase.Anticipating this move, Galvatron had equipped his fortress with the necessary machinery to convert the fallout into energon, and placed Cyclonus and Scourge to guard the installation. While griping over how they missed conquest, and how the lack of resistance proved to no longer be fun, the pair were ambushed byGetaway,one of the few surviving Autobots. He was joined byChainclawandGuzzle,and though Cyclonus killed the latter, Getaway succeeded in eliminating Scourge before falling himself. Cyclonus was then pounced upon by Chainclaw, only to be rescued by Galvatron. For having failed to stop an Autobot/human rebel invasion of the main Decepticon base, and for needing to be rescued at all, Cyclonus was destroyed by his enraged leader.Rhythms of Darkness!

Cyclonus is a gargantuan Decepticon soldier, able to comfortably house most of Galvatron's troops within his spaceship mode. He was involved in the Decepticon's ploy to take over the Earth's communication satellites, looming ominously in Earth orbit, ready to blast into oblivion any Autobots who attempted to interfere. He also acted as the Decepticons’ signal jamming device, preventing any signal other than Galvatron's from get through to Earth.
In one possible scenario, he was shot by Astrotrain, as the later's military control had been taken over by Hot Rod.
In another possible scenario, he blow apart by Hot Rod, who was using one of Perceptor's latest inventions, a “rapid-fire, high-intesity rifle cannon.”
In yet another possible scenario, Cyclonus was immobilized in Earth orbit when the Autobots successfully sabotaged the Decepticons’ computer systems.
In yet another possible scenario, Ultra Magnus and his crew opened fire onto Cyclonus from their space shuttle in orbit. Galvatron and his multiwing jet fighter Decepticons emerged from Cyclonus in order to engage the Autobots. Galvatron and Cyclonus had a good maniacal laugh together as they watched the Autobots drift helplessly into the void of space after the Decepticons tore their shuttle to pieces.
In another possible scenario, Powerglide and Swoop worked in conjunction to distract Cyclonus, and destroy the Decepticons’ transmit ion device. After the Autobots’ plan had succeeded, Cyclonus was still left too confused to understand what had just transpired.Autobot Alert!
The Invisibility Factor
Cyclonus was stationed in the Decepticons’ secret desert base. In one possible scenario, he failed to recapture the humanSarah Sandersafter she had been snatched up by the Autobots from the Decepticons’ grasp. Though he fired upon Sarah's spaceship as she and the Autobots within began to fly away, Cyclonus was unable to hit his target once the ship became invisible.The Invisibility Factor

Cyclonus grew increasingly discontent with Galvatron after the Decepticon leader took to talking toRatbatmore than him, and began openly discussing mutiny withScourge.He was sent out on a mission to locate a newenergonsource which had been detected on an asteroid, and found that the source was a strangesmall alien.Following more abuse heaped on him by Galvatron, Cyclonus was able to study the creature, and discovered that it regurgitated its food in the form of Energon. Galvatron was pleased, but while Ratbat was out searching for more of the creatures, an Autobot was detected spying on the Decepticons, and the situation soon escalated into a pitched battle.The Test
Along withScorponokand Octane, Cyclonus interceptedCosmos,as the Autobot was heading forAndellor.Though Cyclonus initially disbelieved Cosmos's story, he insisted that Cosmos lead them to his destination. It was there that Cyclonus was able to recall the history of Andellor and the existence of thePrism of Power.Down on the planet, the three Decepticons ventured into a cave and were attacked, first by some tentacles from a pool, and finally byIronhide,who defeated them.Transformers in 3-D #2
Cyclonus took part in the attack onTau-Ursawhich saw Galvatron acquire a component for his latest weapon. Galvatron ordered the city destroyed. Cyclonus subsequently took part in a diversionary attack led bySixshotwhile Galvatron used his new weapon, theNullification Cannon,to destroy Cybertron's Energon stocks. The Autobots began searching for the planetMetascan Alpha,location of a vast store of energy, and Cyclonus took theTerrorconsto find them, eventually encounteringUltra Magnuson a desolate moon. The Autobots quickly retreated, preferring to concentrate on their goal, but inadvertently ended up leading theDestructonsto the moon. In the many possible adventures that followed, Cyclonus usually remained aboard the ship, while the Combaticons went out in the field to deal with the Autobots. Centuries later, Cyclonus was caught up in the PredaconMegatron's attack on all Cybertron. Despite Megatron's attempts to implant his spark within aVehiconbody, Cyclonus retained his own mind and managed to escape. Wishing to restore the glorious Decepticon empire, Cyclonus had already been seduced by Cryotek's ambitions when he, alongside other renegade "bad guys" Skywarp andRotorbolt,joined theWreckers.In the aftermath of Megatron'stransformation virus,the Wreckers and a few other small groups were the only Transformers left active onCybertron.
Soon, the legendary entity called theOraclegathered these groups together and gave them each a task. The Wreckers were summoned to a far-off planet, and so the team fought their way through scores of Vehicons to secure a shuttle. Cyclonus and Skywarp's arrival helped seal the Wreckers' victory, and the group managed to leave Cybertron towards their destination.Departure
After some difficulties withDevcon,a stowaway, Cyclonus and the other Wreckers landed onArcha Nine,where they learned of a mysterious energy-generating crystal named the "Divine Light".Cyclonus killed theMaximalPackrat,nearly killed Rotorbolt, and stole the Divine Light, and after taunting his deceived "comrades," fled home to deliver the artifact to his true master.Betrayal
As Cryotek siphoned the power ofPrimusby using the Divine Light, his ascension to borrowed godhood was guarded by Cyclonus. At first, Cyclonus seemed to have the upper hand when he appeared to be able to command Skywarp. Skywarp's complicity was just a ruse, however, and Cyclonus found himself doublecrossed. With the rest of the Wreckers busy, Cyclonus faced his old rival, Rodimus, in a very personal battle. After trading barbs both physical and verbal, the two ended their duel in a messy, violent stalemate. This stalemate lasted until Rotorbolt arrived and ended Cyclonus, avenging his near-deadly encounter on Archa Nine. Cryotek briefly resurrected him as one of manyzombies,but his subsequent defeat at the hands of Rodimus,Cheetor,Sentinel Maximus,Al-badur,andRamulusended Cyclonus's life again.Wreckers: Finale Part II

Trailing theDecepticon Guardfollowing its takeover of Iacon, Cyclonus overheard the rumours that Sixshot might become the Guard's new captain, news that made him eager to confront the six-changer.AwakeningsCyclonus made his way to the Decepticon headquarters, battering pastCrasherwhen she tried to block his path, before heading for Sixshot. Confronting the six-changer, he demanded to know the reason he'd destroyed the war memorial, before attacking. The two fought, until Sixshot, not particularly wanting to kill his former comrade-in-arms, revealed Pyra Magna had been let out of stasis. This shocked Cyclonus enough to start seeing a hallucination of Paragon. The specter of his dead lover suggested Cyclonus's guilt was less because they'd died, and more he'd lived. Wanting to ease his pain, either by killing Pyra Magna or dying at her hands, Cyclonus told Sixshot to give him an opening in exchange for killing her.War World: Hunt
That opening came soon enough, when the newly minted Optimus Prime tried holding talks between himself and Megatron, hosted by Pyra and Strika. Cyclonus attacked the former general, railing against her actions. Hearing his words, Pyra realised he had just cause to seek her death, and put her life in his hands. However, Cyclonus was unable to bring himself to strike the killing blow. Shaken, he asked what he was supposed to do, to which Pyra admitted she couldn't help there, leaving Cyclonus to his thoughts.We Are Not Meant To Be Darkness
Ultimately, Cyclonus chose to remain in Iacon with the Decepticons. Some forty cycles later, he learned that Provoke had been found alive under the Memorial Crater, thoughFlatlineinformed him that with how long she'd been under, he was uncertain if her mind could be saved.Test Flight IDespite this, Cyclonus soon heard from Flatline that Provoke was miraculously speaking again. Though the ancient tyrant tried to usurp Cyclonus' own body, he proved the better warrior, cutting out Provoke's spark chamber and forcing Exarchon to abandon the body. There, they engaged Exarchon's loyalists, with Cyclonus taking onOnslaught.War's End Part TwoWhile Cyclonus brawled with Onslaught,Jumpstreamleaped into the fray, having seen a possible future where she and Cyclonus had died in this battle. She saved Cyclonus from being shot in the back, and he affirmed that he didn't care if he died- as long as he saw to Exarchon's death first. After a lull in the fighting, those allied against Exarchon regrouped and Cyclonus stood apart from them. His ghostly chorus agreed with Cyclonus' willingness to sacrifice his own life to end Exarchon, save "Paragon", who suggested that Cyclonus could find a new purpose in life afterwards.War's End Part Three
WhenMindwipe,Sparkstalker,andBitstreamarrived on the scene with a plan to seal Exarchon inside a booby-trappedTitanspark,Cyclonus readily agreed to it, despite Pyra Magna's objections. The Autobots and Decepticons raided Exarchon's hideout again and in the midst of battle, Mindwipe managed to lock his hypnotic stare on Exarchon's optics long enough to compel him into usurping the Titanspark. Pyra Magna still hesitated in sacrificing the spark, so Cyclonus grabbed it from her and confronted Exarchon. The Threefold Spark greedily seized the Titanspark and Cyclonus was able to seal Exarchon inside its cage, trapping two-thirds of his essence within and ending the imminent threat. Exarchon's loyalists surrendered and the sealed Exarchon's spark was immediately destroyed by Pyra Magna, unwilling to let Megatron get his hands on it. In the aftermath, Sixshot ordered Cyclonus to return with the Decepticons to Iacon, but Cyclonus refused. He decided to sit in the Sonic Canyons for a while and just enjoy the true end ofhiswar.War's End Part Four
Ultimately, Cyclonus chose to abandon his weapons and accompany the Autobots toDarkmount,intent on leaving the planet with them. He thanked his ghostly retinue and allowed them to disappear, save "Paragon", who he bade remain with him for a little longer. Cyclonus boarded theArkand left Cybertron behind, deciding that his next stop would be the remains ofNeutronia,as Paragon had always wanted to visit it. Decepticon story
As one of the elite troops sent back in time to prevent Shockwave's unstoppable rampage, Cyclonus acted as Galvatron's second in command. When they joined forces with Megatron and his troops, Cyclonus worked with Soundwave in identifying possible targets. At one point, the pair disagreed with one another over one of these targets and Cyclonus threatened Soundwave into accepting all blame if the lead didn't pan out. Soundwave agreed, but ominously warned that he charged a high price for being spoken to in such a manner.
Sure enough, the operation was a dud and Cyclonus attempted to deflect the blame to Soundwave, who promptly played back a recording of the entire conversation. Unluckily for Cyclonus, that conversation included him insulting Megatron and referring to him as obsolete scrap. Soundwave next had the pleasure of recording Cyclonus's screams as Megatron used him for target practice.
Cyclonus also had the unusual experience of being impressed with Starscream when the normally-treacherous Air Commander successfully defused a potentially lethal fight between Megatron and Galvatron.The Transformers
Autobot story
Cyclonus attacked the Autobots inside the Atalstan gem mine with Octane for support. Deciding to skip the usual pre-fight banter, Cyclonus got right to the fighting. After a fierce battle, the Autobots managed to take down Cyclonus and Octane. Defeated, Cyclonus stated that he had underestimated the Autobots' power and that he needed to retreat and rest. He bid the Autobots goodbye and transformed into his fighter craft form, retreating from the mine. Rodimus Prime expressed disappointment about how Cyclonus got away, and Optimus acknowledged that Cyclonus was a tough opponent.
Later, Cyclonus joined up with Scourge while the latter was fighting the Autobots on their way to the ELTA. Both were eventually defeated, and Cyclonus decided to fall back, almost leaving Scourge behind!The Transformers

Cyclonus came to Earth seeking to aid Galvatron in his conquest of Earth. When he came through theSpace bridgeHe proclaimed straight away "I follow the one true leader of the Decepticon cause!" At first, Megatron was pleased, but when he heard Cyclonus say "All hail Galvatron!" he tried to correct him.
After Galvatron scolded him for being late, Cyclonus informed him of his plan to set Earth's jungles on fire and to convert the thermal energy to Energon to fuel the Decepticons on Earth. Unfortunately, Hot Spot heard of the plan, and as he usually did, intervened. Cyclonus failed the mission, but still gained some of the loyalty of the Decepticons on Earth.Rumble in the Jungle event
When the Decepticons located a strange signal in the Artic, Galvatron ordered Cyclonus to investigate while Megatron and Starscream were quarreling. He spottedJetfire,but was unable to pursue due to the ice formed on his canopy. It turns out it was no ordinary ice, butnano-frost,so Galvatron had him return with the sample, hoping to use it as a super-weapon. Cyclonus questioned how Megatron would get theNova Coreafter Reflector botched the mission. He replied that his insubordinate behavior makes revealing his genius strategy all the more enjoyable, and called in Brake-Neck. Cyclonus boldly denounced that Megatron's backup plan for an incompetent engineer was "an insane car", and gave a sarcastic remark after Brake-Neck said he wouldn't go near the power plant. - In two scenes in the US edition ofHeadmasters#2,where Cyclonus was supposed to appear, artistFrank Springeraccidentally drewa giant-sized version ofNightstick(though it's actuallyFracas,but those two's character models got swapped and... oy), who was then colored like Cyclonus. For the UK printing of the story, since audiences were already very familiar with Cyclonus from exclusive stories in that comic, the giant Nightstick was renamed "Krunix".
- Cyclonus's unique origin in the UK comics is a result of Simon Furman's misinterpretation of the movie summary he had read (having not yet actually seen the feature), which referenced the fading "life spark" of a Decepticon. This led to Cyclonus actually claiming he had been rebuilt from a Decepticon named "Life Spark".
