Gigantion
From Transformers Wiki
Gigantion, theGiant Planet,is not the kind of planet theOraclewould appreciate, but it's a nice, cozy home for a robot. Existing in a state of perpetual daylight, the planet is an enormous mechanical megapolis, a vastly upscaled analogue ofCybertron, but constructed mostly by its inhabitants. These Transformers settled on anEarth-like, rocky, organic-covered planet, and built their cities on it. The Transformers of Gigantion are enormous, and tower over even the largest Cybertronians. Despite their imposing size and strength, they are not much given to violence or warfare. Most are gentle and peaceful, desiring only to hone their skills and build ever grander structures. They work closely with the smallMini-ConTransformers, who can tackle the delicate tasks too refined for the heavy manipulators of theirBulkcomrades. Construction is the order of the day for any proper Gigantion, and as such the denizens of the planet transform into heavy-duty construction vehicles.
The dominant language of Gigantion is practically identical to aScottishdialectof the English tongue. The Mini-Cons beep with a Scottish accent, no doubt. At the time the planet was re-discovered, it was led by the giganticMetroplex.
According to Gigantian tradition, old cities are to be left alone. The population constantly moves to unbuilt areas, constructing new cities, never returning to the old ones. They even go so far as to dump the data on those old cities from their computers. Why this custom came about is lost to time, but it's tradition, and if you stopped doing traditional things just because they make no sense, then really, what'swrongwith you? The Gigantions continually rebuilt their cities right on top the old ones, until the planet was completely enveloped in a vast series of artificial layers, complete with artificial foliage, simulated skies and day/night cycles. At its heart, though, the original planet remains, well-preserved and even supplied with artificial light, but long forgotten. With it lies the forgotten starship theLemuria, the vessel that carried their (comparatively) diminutive forebears to their new home as part of the galaxy spanningspace bridgeproject.
Gigantion is surrounded not just by a ring, but by a debris field made up of the detritus of ancient building projects...and probably bits of a long-gone planet.

Gigantion was plotted out as one of the four worlds to serve as a focal point for the galaxy-spanningspace bridgeproject. The starshipLemuriawas sent to the planet, along with aCyber Planet Key,but like the other colony worlds, a space bridge accident caused the world to be cut off from all others, and over the years, it was lost to time.
Unlikethe other worlds, Gigantion got evenmorelost, as at some point in the planet's ancient history, after the original colonists arrived, the entire system was sucked into a wormhole, transporting it to an alternate universe.BalanceThis impromptu interdimensional shift was brought about by the warlike inhabitants of the nefariousPlanet X,who had pulled Gigantion into their universe so that they could consume the world for its rich energy supplies and raw materials. The Gigantians turned to the power of the Cyber Planet Key, which caused both the planet and its inhabitants (save the Mini-Cons, of course) to grow to massive size, allowing them to fight Planet X to a standstill. When Planet X was detonated by one of its own malfunctioning weapons, peace returned, and the inhabitants of Gigantion went back to their jobs. Tales of the war were eventually lost to the centuries, being little more than rumor and myth to its modern inhabitants.ChallengeThe only native environment remaining was in the central core where the mooredLemuriarested with the Cyber Key left undisturbed aboard.Giant
Gigantion itself remained trapped in the parallel universe, with the only means of access between it and its home continuum being a tunnel in time and space in theSkeleton Nebula, which was only open for a few days every year. Seeking the Cyber Key resting on the planet, both theOgygiaandAtlantistravelled through the tunnel and emerged in the alternate universe.Megatronhowever was guided through the dimensions bySoundwaveand emerged directly on Gigantion itself before either of his foes.WarpThe Decepticon leader quickly smooth talked the impressionableMenasorinto guiding him down to the planet's central layer before the Autobots, now aligned withMetroplexandQuickmix, beat them back.GiantSo much did his defeat by Metroplex enrage Megatron that he used theArmor of Unicronto steal power from the Cyber Key and reformat himself into Galvatron. As the Autobots searched Gigantion's cities for data on the Key, they found themselves used as practice dummies for Galvatron's new power beforeOptimus Primemanaged to defeat his foe.Fury
As the Autobots prepared to begin their search, they came across the crashedAtlantisand rescued their allies trapped aboard. Following that, they split themselves up into five teams to explore all possible routes down to the Cyber Key.CityAs they descended,Override's team found historical recordings of Planet X's invasion.AmbushTheCybertron Defense Teamthen ran afoul of Soundwave andSidewayswho explained their planet's feud with Gigantion and their plans for the Cybertronian race.ChallengeThe Autobot trio were later met by Galvatron who soundly defeated them and left them to burn in an abandoned city. Elsewhere,Bud Hansenfound a city scaled for Mini-Cons whereScourgehad a crisis of personal honor.Scourge
All the teams reached the central layer at the same time only forStarscreamto swoop in and claim the Key. Before he could fly off, however,Landminetapped the Key's power to temporarily supersize himself and send the Seeker packing. At the behest of theirMini-Cons,Metroplex and Menasor made amends with the Autobots managing to secure the fourth Key.Optimus
After they completed theOmega Lock,it deactivated the anti-teleportationfield to open aspace bridgeback to Cybertron. This however allowed Galvatron to warp directly into their midst and steal the Lock only to be met by Starscream. The two engaged in a fierce duel with Galvatron ultimately triumphing and returning home, the duel having lasted enough for the dimensional gate between universes to close.ShowdownTo catch up with the Decepticons,Vector Primegave up his physical form to allow his allies to travel back in time to when the gate was open and return to their own universe.Guardian
Once the crisis had passed, all four colony worlds reopened diplomatic ties with Cybertron, with Metroplex acting as his planet's representative.Beginning

Notes
- The original idea for Gigantion involved colossalJunkion-like robots with scrap aesthetic.[2]The planned explanation for the planet's endless cycle of building was that Gigantion was supposed to become the hub of the galaxy-spanningspace bridgenetwork, so they were building to accommodate the millions of Transformers that would soon populate and pass through the world.[3]This went unmentioned in the cartoon, with the residents of Gigantion constantly building for no particular reason.
- When asked about the accents inCybertronduring the cartoon creation panel atBotCon 2006,David McDermottrevealed that the Gigantions' Scottish accents were inspired by the "greatest sci-fi engineer" of all time, "Scotty"fromStar Trek.[4]
