John Barberis a freelance comic book writer and former editor in chief ofIDW Publishing.

Before working for IDW, Barber published his own comics and also worked forMarvel,editingWolverinecomics and gaining familiarity with wrestling an erratic continuity. He then wrote all of IDW'sDark of the Mooncomics, as well as three prequels to the movies to reconcileChris Ryall,Simon Furman,andChris Mowry's stories,Alan Dean Foster's novels, the films themselves and characterbios![1]

He began his run on the2005 IDW continuityas the author of the ongoing comic titleThe Transformers: Robots in Disguise,and was editor of RID's sister ongoing,The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye.In the process he waged a ceaseless war against continuity gaffes and errors, turning the most forgettable goofs into key plot points. He was also the co-writer ofTransformers vs. G.I. Joeand continued his run fromRobots in Disguisein theOptimus Primetitle, all the while writing various other one-shots and side-projects. As of 2024, John has writing credits on 189 issues for IDW, making him the second most prolificTransformerswriter of all time andmaybewinning out on page count.

Barber was succeeded as senior editor byDenton J. Tipton,and as Hasbro Books Group Editor bySarah Gaydos.[2]

He later took over as editor in chief after Chris Ryall's departure before ultimately departing IDW in December 2021.[3]
