Scourge finally reaches Gigatron, but...

Synopsis

Somewhere in space,Black Convoyleads theCommandosandSky-Bytein an attack onNeo Brave Maximus,headquarters of theAutobotDimensional Patrol.The Autobots launch theSuper Spychangersfor a counterattack, but their damage to the enemy ship's engines causes it to crash into Maximus, allowing their foes entry into the base.Fire Convoyis unconcerned about the impact, their new base having been granted to them byVector Sigmaitself to replace the originalBrave Maximus,thoughSide Burnworries that there are nohumanchildren around to power upEmissary.When Fire Convoy requestsBattle ProtocolfromT-AI,he finds that her systems have been hacked and taken over by the enemy's own tactical computer,Dark Ai,and he is soon approached by Scourge andRuinationwho demand the release ofDevil Gigatron.

However, Devil Gigatron is already there waiting for them, and to their shock he reveals that he has turned over a new leaf and given up on his evil ways. His time with the Dimensional Patrol andSkidshas taught him of the threat posed by malevolent higher lifeforms like theCloudbeings andZamojin,and he has decided to join his old friend Fire Convoy and dedicate his eternal life to protecting dimensions from such threats. He apologizes for brainwashing Scourge into a villain and asks him to join them, but Scourge is enraged, having embraced both his identity and the evil in his heart. Intent on fulfilling Gigatron's abandoned ambitions himself, Scourge attacks his former leader and attempts to absorb the source of power in hisspark,but is held back by Sky-Byte who remains loyal. Gigatron transforms into his Devilostrich mode and extracts the evil he once infused Black Convoy with, reverting him against his will to his original form—theprotoformof a heroic Autobot.

• Scourge and Sky-Byte reunited with the five members of Ruination in "Ruination Chapter, Part Two".
• Dark Ai debuted earlier in Ruination's pack-in theUnite Warriors Offshotchapter, "Strategy Meeting in an Earth Bath?!"
• The Commandos' ship is their original one from when they wereprotoforms,as seen in "Foe? Friend!? Black Convoy"and"JRX versus Baldigus".That ship was based on theAxalonas seen in theBeast Warscartoon.To connect the two, this story refers to the Combatron ship as aCyber Falcon-type spaceshipfrom the late parts of theG2 War;Cyber Falconwas the name given to theAxalonin aTV Magazineissue published while theBeast Warscartoon aired in Japan.
• Neo Brave Maximus in this story is a new body forCerebrosto control. The previous Maximus is noted as being given to the Autobots on Earth, withsolitariumas a power source and withZebresandMaster,finally providing an in-fiction explanation for Brave Maximus's "Cybertron Base"release duringRobotmasters.Consequently, this would seem to mean it was Zebres and Master, not Plasma and Brave, who travelled with theKiss Playersand ended up on pre-modernMasterforFortressto find.
• Neo Brave Maximus is a virtual redeco of theTitans ReturnFortress Maximusmold, fittingly enough.
• TheSpychangersmake an appearance in their "Super Spychanger"forms, which were previously established to have taken place in the grand Japanese Generation 1 timeline and were described in further detail in a1 August 2015 postof theAsk Vector PrimeFacebook page.
• Gigatron says he and Fire Convoy were once childhood friends, a detail from the firstCar Robotstoy catalog.
• Skids encountered a Cloud World Transformer causing trouble inthe Deadlock bonus volume,and the Zamojin threat to the Legends World's existence has been a recurring plot point, notably inBonus Edition Vol. 12andBonus Edition Vol. 41.
• Devil Gigatron's "Devilostrich Mode" was previously a somewhat unofficial mode given by designerTakashi Kunihiro,seen inthe August 2011 issue ofFigure Ōmagazine.
