Larry Hama(bornJune 7,1949) is an American comic book writer, best known for his decade-long run onMarvel Comics's monthlyG.I. Joecomic.
Given the job byJim Shooterafter it was turned down by everybody else, Hama combined a story treatment he had produced for aNick Fury:Agent ofS.H.I.E.L.D.spinoff with his military and martial arts knowledge (and seeming love affair with ninjas) to produce the comic series, writing with only a few exceptions almost the entire 155 issue run. Also serving much the same roleBob Budianskydid with shaping the earlyTransformermythos, as well as the writing the comic Hama produced the background file cards for the majority of 3 3/4 "action figures forHasbro.Much likeSimon Furmanwith Transformers, Larry still writesG.I. Joecomics to this day.
While he didn't write the MarvelG.I. Joe and the Transformerslimited series, in 1993 as theG.I. Joecomic was coming to a close, Hama wrote a five-issue storyline that served to set up the subsequentGeneration 2comic,and depictedCobrarebuildingMegatronwith a tank for his newalt mode.
He's also written a pretty lengthy chunk ofWolverine's ongoing series during the 80s and 90s.
