When theArkcrashed on theMoonin1961,John F. Kennedytasked NASA with getting men up there. After years of work, theApollo 11launched in1969.AstronautsNeil ArmstrongandBuzz Aldrinsuccessfully landed on the Moon and, during a period of communications blackout with NASA, entered theArk.Over the years, a number of other missions to the site were made, taking photos and retrieving samples. In the early 70s,SoundwaveandLaserbeakgained the help ofDylan Gould's father in using creative accounting to shut down any further NASA missions.

After the arrival of the second wave of Autobots, NASA ended up looking after theXantiumas well as the threeWreckers.When theArkcrash came to light,Optimus Primemet with Buzz Aldrin and a couple of NASA's founding associates to discuss the crash. Some time later, when the Autobots were ordered to vacate Earth, they attached theXantiumto theDiscoveryand launched it, only for the ship to be destroyed byStarscream.Dark of the Moon

The Last Knightfilm

While operating deep space sensors, aJPL engineerat NASA'sJet Propulsion Laboratorydetected a planet-size object entering the solar system. Travelling to NASA's headquarters inWashington, D.C.,he briefed the President's staff about the object, stating that it was traveling at 1/10 light speed and would approach Earth in three days. The following day, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Deep Space Network continued to track the incoming planet and confirmed that the planet was the exoplanetCybertron.NASA andESAjointly operated theHubble Space Telescopeto take images of the Cybertron; the footage was later shown on a TV screen in theBritish Prime Minister's office at 10 Downing Street.

While Cybertron came closer to the Earth the next day, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and ESA gave a briefing about the planet's approach while it scraped the surface of the Moon. The Lunar Module Descent Stage and a U.S. flag from NASA'sApollo 11mission were destroyed by the planet's outer chunks, which also knocked away the wreckage of theArk.Before hitting the Earth, Cybertron first approached and destroyed theInternational Space Station,which was built and operated by NASA and four other space agencies, in a head-on collision.

The JPL team later assisted the United States military and theAutobotsin trying to find a way to shut down Cybertron's ignition chamber. Unfortunately, the same JPL engineer who discovered Cybertron's approach claimed that the US military's plan to break into the ignition chamber and steal the staff was a bad idea and said that he would rather rely on "physics rather than fair-tales" to save the planet. The JPL team determined that Cybertron was using Earth's core (akaUnicron) to rebuild itself. The same JPL engineer from before informed thePentagonthat if Earth's core continued to cool, Earth's magnetic field would be gone and that the planet's surface would be exposed to high levels of cosmic radiation, leading to the demise of all life.

When the US military's plan began failing due to heavy resistance from an army ofDecepticonsandInfernocons,the JPL came up with a Hail Mary-level plan to usetactical nukesto cause a fragment of Cybertron to swing down and hit the ignition chamber. The Pentagon agreed and requested tactical nuke authority. F-35 Lighting II and F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets associated with theUnited States Air Forceopened fire and struck the selected chunk of Cybertron, which proceeded to knock off the ignition chamber. Unfortunately, the ignition chamber continued to operate, much to NASA's disappointment. Fortunately,Viviane Wemblywas able to pull thecontrol stafffree, shutting down the ignition chamber just before it crashed to the ground. The JPL staff cheered while the same engineer expressed relief.The Last Knight
