Synopsis
Wheeljackfires a shot intoHot Shot's chest at close range, to finalize his switch to theDecepticons. His business for the day concluded, Wheeljack vanishes, leaving an injured Hot Shot wondering how his friend could have made such a dramatic turn for the worse. Unable to cope with the trauma, he blacks out.
Hot Shot wakes up in theAutobots' infirmary, having been brought back to the Autobots' base bySide Swipe.Wondering how he could have been so betrayed, Hot Shot tries to recall the last time he saw Wheeljack.
On a fiery battlefield onCybertron,Wheeljack is left held down while Hot Shot runs to get some help to help lift the debris. But after getting out of the blaze, Hot Shot's superior refuses to allow Hot Shot to return. Ignoring his superior's orders and threats, Hot Shot runs back into the fire, but passes out from the heat. Later, he wakes up alone.
Optimus Primereveals toBlurrthat he knew about Hot Shot losing his friend, which is why Hot Shot was one of the troops chosen to come toEarth.Back in the infirmary, Side Swipe tries to convince Hot Shot to forgive himself, even if Wheeljack won't. Trying to collect his thoughts, Hot Shot drives out on his own, and runs intoThrust.
Wheeljack and Hot Shot meet up at an abandoned industrial station. Wheeljack relates theTransformers' obsession with wars to the humans' own tendency to wage wars. The two battle, but Hot Shot shows an initial reluctance to fight back. When Wheeljack draws his weapon, Hot Shot offers to let Wheeljack execute him with no resistance. Side Swipe interferes, and a failed attempt to save Hot Shot sets the industrial complex on fire. Wheeljack laughs and takes advantage of the situation by abducting Side Swipe. As Wheeljack carries Side Swipe into the inferno, he mockingly suggests Hot Shot save his sidekick.
Hot Shot crawls through the burning factory looking for his friend. Thrust tries to play a part in Wheeljack's grudge match, but Wheeljack blasts the Decepticon jet away—revealing his own location to Hot Shot. Working his way through the flames and metal, Hot Shot locates and frees Side Swipe. The two barely manage to get away as the container Side Swipe was set on explodes. Meanwhile, Wheeljack encounters Megatron.
On theMoon,Wheeljack pledges his loyalty to the Decepticons.
At the Autobot base, Side Swipe declares himself "like family" to Hot Shot and chases Hot Shot for hugs. The other kids have a laugh at Alexis becoming too attached tothe video gameshe learned to play from Billy and Fred.

Notes
Differences withLegends of the Microns
- Hot Shot and Side Swipe's conversation of the former's past at the base is subtly different between dubs, withArmadacontinuing the need to make Hot Shot's promise to Wheeljack played at face value.
- Sideswipe claims to Hot Shot in Armada that he didn't abandon anyone and was trying to follow orders, in which the latter disagrees and says that he should've stayed with Wheeljack since Autobots always stay together. Hot Shot also guesses that he was only thinking about himself during the incident.
- Side Swipe tells Hot Shot he didn't abandon Wheeljack and that the Autobot soldier blocked him off from going back to him inLegends of the Microns.Hot Shot then admits he reallydidabandon Wheeljack due to his cowardice, and by using that promise as an excuse, no one could blame him for what happened to Wheeljack. Hot Shot only went back to the flames because he felt last second guilt, thus him saying that he's fighting his darker side feels more natural than in the English dub.
- Armadaomits a conclusion drawn by Optimus and Blurr during their conversation: Wheeljack "missed" his shot because he didn't want to kill Hot Shot, he wanted to give him the chance to forget the past and fight him just as another Decepticon without holding back.
- Armadahas Rad and Carlos refer to theFighter Machinesin the video game they're playing as "Mini-Cons", suggesting the humans are forcing the Mini-Cons to fight to the death for entertainment. InLegends of the Microns, the pair discuss the logicstics of learning fighting moves from a game.
Animation and technical errors
- Hot Shot is briefly drawn with a Decepticon logo.Legends of the Micronschanges this to the correct Autobot logo.
- After catching Side Swipe, Wheeljack is drawn with an obvious Autobot logo on his forearm for several shots.
Continuity notes
- As stated above,Legends of the Micronsconcludes Optimus and Blurr's conversation with Wheeljack purposely missing Hot Shot's spark in hopes that he can forget about the past since he got what he deserved. This implies that Wheeljack had forgiven Hot Shot before enteringEarth, and confronted him so he can move on from the guilt.
- Hot Shot feeling remorse over his past actions gets revisited inlaterepisodes.
- Gadgets and powers:
- Side Swipe uses his pistol with the bayonet attached this time.
Continuity errors
- In the previous episode, Wheeljack claimed that he had not come for revenge; however, in the recap of this episode, he says that he HAS come for revenge. The "I've come for revenge" line is not present inLegends of the Microns, but Wheeljack's actions in both this episode and the previous one make it clear the hedoeswant revenge.
- Unless Side Swipe was somehow a bystander during the flashback, why would he tell Hot Shot to remember what happened when he hasn't heard about it nor Wheeljack up until this point?Legends of the Micronsremoves this line, so it’s a non-issue.
- How did Hot Shot know to meet Wheeljack where he did? Who knows! Both versions of the show never explain this.
- In the flashback, Megatron is shown in his current Earth form.
Transformers references
- At one point when playing the game, Alexis hums theopening theme.
Trivia
- The kanji qua đi would bekakoand sau biên would be pronounced askōhen, while "ketchaku"is used for either quyết or kết ( quyết is usually seen).
- When Alexis realizes she's playing the game too much, you see aFighter Machinethat resembles Megatron on the screen.
